It will stay as Thrall; he's 'earned' that name, and he won't change it now so late in his life.

Thrall stated in the novel "lord of the clans" that he would keep his name, because he is what he is due to the sum of all that has happened in his life, including the crappy treatment he suffered at the hands of blackmoore, the horrible treatment given to him by every human in durnholde, the honor given to him by sargeant, the love given to him by thareta, the inspiration given to him by grom, and the wisdom given to him by drek'thar.
do deny his name would be to deny is past, and while his past was horrible and brutal, and filled with pain, it made him who he is today, and to deny that , would be to deny who he is.
as much as his parents chose the name Go'el for him, his parents were never a part of his life, and the name was never a part of him as well.
all of this was said by Thrall himself both in Lord of the Clans, and on Hero of the Mag'har.
:P it takes all the humility of the world to make a desition like that, wich is one of hte many reasons I admire thrall so much.

hehe, is ironic really, because the info of thrall's real name is almost 4 years old, but so few people actually manage or bother to do the hero of the mag'har quest, that it's not common knoledge what his real name is.
of course, is not like u're spoiling much by saying what's his real name, is cristal clear that Thrall isn't is real name as no parent would name a child like that, so it IS common knoledge that he must have some other name behind is title.

.
This, the last part most of all.
To people who have the nerve to call him soft, try living your life with a name that means slave, to prove you are anything but that.
I often wondered, if he would accept those close to him (maybe jaina, drek'thar) calling him Go'el. I dare say he wouldn't, as thrall is the name he's known his whole life. He simply got to hear what his parents named him before his birth, so he knew he had that, like a peice of his past he never had till then.
Its a profound irony, that someone whos name means 'slave' is the one who lead his people to there freedom.

just so you know tauren, as much as I admire thrall, he isn't exactly "original".
the writers were inspired in another to create thrall.
Thrall is HEAVILY based and inspired by Caesar from the planet of the apes........
while they aren't exactly clones, they share so many similarities...... :P
of course, I admire Caesar too xD and I'm a big fan of planet of the apes as well.

Well, there is a lot of what characters are based on in warcraft, since so much really is taken from something else in wow. There draenei came from a race in starcraft weren't they? And of course the endless references to lord of the rings, sauron/lich king being one of the most obvious, hee.
But even if he is inspired from caeser, he's still one of the most amazing characters in the warcraft genre. I managed to find an orc who is an actual hero in wow, pretty amazing when you consider all other fantasy genres.

Again, in your view; people do like other heroes then Thrall.

humm, not so sure about that, in looks and architecture draenei are "vagely" resembled on the protoss race from starcraft, but their lore+personality+code of honor+and a large ect are complete oposites of what the protoss are.
after all the protoss honor the kala'h and the dark templars shun it for their free will :P draenei have no such thing.
sauron/lich king being one of the most obvious, hee.
Humm....... actually the lich king is more inspired on the Witch King of angmar, rather than sauron, dunno, but it seems more fitting the setting and background.

Well its more a mote point, but the details came from somewhere else for so much in warcraft. One just tends to look past it a lot of the times. Your can pretty much find reference to something in wow for 80% of the lore and its characters.
