Poverty means you are poor. I believe Mother Teresa was saying that if you decide a child has to die so that you can live your life as you'd like, then your soul and life are "poor."
Edit -
It doesn't necessarily have to mean abortion. It could also mean ignoring a starving child's hunger when you have plenty too eat or something like that.

Abortion is a really difficult topic. Most of the debate centers around the question; 'when does life begin'? Pro-life people tend to believe that life begins at the moment of conception. Pro-choice people believe that it begins some time early in the third trimester. Miscarriages aside, a living human being will inevitably be born after conception. While it's in the womb, it's a fetus, and physiologically it cannot be called a baby or 'alive' until the third trimester.
That said, there isn't much room for psychological analysis of this statement. Obviously, Mother Teresa was a part of the pro-life school of thought. She thought it to be completely amoral and a 'poverty' of the spirit to commit such an act at all. Abortion is heavily associated with subjectivity. Would the child live a happy life or would it be forced into orphanages and foster care? Was the pregnancy a result of rape or incest? These considerations must be dealt with before the issue can be decided on. It's not a black-and-white issue, as much as people want to view it as one. Perhaps this can provide some insight into your analysis, although I don't know how to view the question in a psychological manner...
