Tailoring Advice

I'm on the Barthilas server (Oceanic) and I've had a bit of trouble getting a good Tailoring run going. I've finally got it maxxed, and I acquired 3 of the ToC patterns, hoping that that would build me up a bit of gold before I moved onto the ICC patterns (and I can get those now, as soon as I have grinded a little bit of rep).
The thing is, the mats are really expensive to buy on AH, and I've rarely seen Spellweave/Moondshroud in numbers greater than about 30 at a time, (the cheaper ones sitting at 30-40g ea, while purchasing the lot would mean buying some for about 100g ea lol!)
In short, I'm wondering whether my server just doesn't have a good market for Tailoring. I'm not a natural enterpriser but my guildie makes a hell of a lot off Leatherworking, and his speculation was that Tailoring had a high markup, and not enough demand for it. Any ideas? I'm a little envious of Tailors who claim to reach gold caps with it :( lol

What are eternals going for on your server? Frostweave? Infinite dust? The finished product?
I know that on my server, when any of the specialty cloths are going for 30g it is an easy market to profit in. All you need to do is vertically integrate your production.
Translation: if it's profitable to make cloth at those prices, make several stacks of cloth. List some of the cloth separately and use some of it in the production of finished product - both your ToC patterns and specialty bags. Switch your specialty around whenever you need to make more cloth, as the extra production will more than make up for the 170g swap fees.
Wildhorn's "How to make gold with every profession" sticky has some other items you can look into making, and there's a lot of profitable patterns available through your trainer that he misses.
Don't limit yourself to trying to hit the home run. A whole lot of singles will bring in the same amount of gold, and often a lot more reliably.

Ahk, I'll check out the sticky. I've looked at the specialty cloth, but unfortunately it costs about double to make it than what it sells for. Eg:
Spellweave sells for 30-35g usually.
- Eternal Fires had an average price of around 18g (over a week's watch)
- Imbued Frostweave sold inconsistently but usually between 8-12g ea.
- Making an Imbued Frostweave bolt from the normal bolt and infinite dust was even more expensive.
So ~45-50g to make :| sure the prices of some mats above spike down a bit, but rarely and not often enough to have an impact.
Also, a quick question. If you try to sell things like specialty bags (eg: Mysterious Bag, Abyssal Bag) or things like Merlin's Robe, etc, do you want to always undercut, and by how much? Because I've had my Merlin's Robe/Bracers up for about a week and a half, and every time I've reposted I've undercut and it still hasn't sold. I haven't even sold 1 yet lol.
-edit:
I just did a sweep of the auction house to have a look. The following items are more expensive to make than they sell for: All three specialty cloths, Imbued and normal bolts of Frostweave, Frostweave Bags, Netherweave Bags, (Merlin's Robe and the other toc crafts usually make profit but even then, the supply is far greater than the demand).
My spellthreads occasionally sell, on the bright side, but for little over a 10g profit at the end of the day, and I'm lucky if I sell 4 a week.

2x Eternal Fire = 36g
1x Bolt of Imbued Frostweave = ~10g
therefore
2x Spellweave = 46g cost and sells for 60-70g
I'm not seeing a problem with making gold, here. That's a fair margin so long as you don't flood the market.
