I use my mouse for assigning abilities. I don't have a fancy game mouse, but with just the mouse wheel you can bind 6 abilities. I use:
scroll forward: charge/hamstring macro (for pvp)
shift-scroll forward: Intervene
mouse click: thunderclap
shift-mouse click: shockwave
scroll back: Piercing howl
shift-scroll back: spell reflect
you get the idea. 1 button, 6 abilities.

Heh. You can bind more than 6 to the mouse :)
Click, forward, back, then with ctrl, shift and alt modifiers. 12 abilities on the wheel :)
I only use shift and ctrl mods though, alt keys are too close to the dreaded windows keys >.> I have a 5-button mouse, so I've got cooldowns and other bits and bobs on the two buttons under my thumb.
I use the arrow keys to move (mouse for turning/strafing :P) so I have shouts bound to insert/home/pg up, and 'odds and ends' on delete/end/pg dwn - stuff I don't need all the time but do sometimes need quickly (disarm, pots, intercept/HF, jetpack, etc). Raid marks/zoom on the num pad.
I like using my mouse over the keyboard, as I don't need to macro stuff together to save me stretching across the keys. Just flick that pinky finger across your mods and give the mobs the middle finger (mouse wheel :P).
