Malfurion has already awakened, and will battle Ragnaros alongside us in the Firelands/Mt. Hyjal. The Emerald Nightmare is - as far as I understand it - somehow resolved, but still there.
... before Cataclysm? What? Where did you get that idea from?

The book 'Stormrage' deals with his waking up, as well as deals with the Nightmare Lord and forces the Nightmare to be sealed away in one section of the Dream. Probably we won't see anything about the Dream till after Cataclysm, can't see them tacking it onto the current one, considering all the plans they have for it.

I would love to see the Emerald Dream added as the next expansion, especially if it brought Pandarens with it. :D
And before someone mentions it: No, there are no laws in Japan outlawing damaging imagery to pandas; one province was contemplating such a law, but to my knowledge it did not pass. Actual physical harm done to pandas is a crime, but given that Kung Fu Panda was released in Japan, the idea that there are laws against harming virtual pandas is an invalid urban myth.

I have never seen this image... How and where did you find it?
But on topic, it could be possible. We had no way of knowing that Cataclysm would be the expansion after Wrath - it made no logical sense that the world would randomly decide to collapse. For all we know, the expansion after that could be some random planet where somebody mighty evil has been hiding and is ready to emerge. Or
Wrath of the Second Lich King
. Or
Tyrande Goes Nuts
.
But if the next expansion were to be in a familiar "area", I would guess Emerald Dream.

Heh, yeah, it was China, and it was because the Pandarens were shown in Japanese armour/clothing style that had them up in arms.

My only guess is that it could be from
this questline
.
It's an obvious photoshop, nothing else. A valid guess though.

I have seen the area itself, just not the map.

Thanks, that's what I get for typing responses while trying to restore a database and work on creating a VMWare image while also answering e-mails.

Heh, multi-tasking for the loss sometimes.

There is an unfinished emerald dream map in the game files. There used to be rumors goin' about that there was a way to get in there to see it by bugging yourself through the odd green smoke up on the mountain near Ashenvale. But that turned out to be mostly shenanigans obtained through means against the ToS.
Look it up on youtube, the area is really pretty.
I would really like a chance to run through an area like that myself for sure.
You were able to glitch to emerald dream with a sit/stand macro on the greens clouds between ashenvale and azshara ONLY in the CoT version of hyjal. And that map is shopped because I saw it about 2 years ago and the good people at a WoW related forum that I wont name confirmed it was fake. Just look at the top half of Kalimdor and compare it to this.
EDIT: And alot of people said the emerald dream that was in the game was "unfinished" this is not true, I forgot what setting it was but it was just a simple adjustment in the Video options and the textures turned up, not like how you see in almost all youtube vides of people standing in a bright green area.
