I would join just to be a human and shoot those insufferable little blue monkeys right in the balls.
I'm sure that you could expand the Avatar universe alot with the right writers and so forth.
I would love to read these, as long as the message was gone. I prefer straight sci fi, no message please.
Anyways: *
How could it be a success?
*
How would you want Avatar as a MMORPG?
*
Graphic engine?
*
What company could really make this happen?
*
What are so beautiful with the idea of playing in Pandora and their ways of life?
1. I twould be popular for sure.
2. I would want it Na'vi vs Humans, on Pandora, and perhaps introducing more alien races+planets later on.
3./shrug. It would probably be good.
4. I have no idea
5. ^

No, Avatar was merely a pretty picture, but the storyline has been used in multiple movies... and they did it better(Ferngully for instance). There is no need for an MMO based on it.

I guess this discussion only works for the fans because as a fan you just really fall in love with the world and the Na'vi :)
So I would'nt expect any other replies from you other non-fans :) Ofc.
*kinda the point* a thread for special interest. You can't get threads that is made for all to enjoy.
Heh. Good point, I just tend to insert my opinion into every discussion of Avatar I can find =P
Same, it was a pretty movie, but not the 'best movie all time'.

It could work, and it probably would be fairly successful...
But then, everyone in the gaming world is apprehensive about any game spawned directly from a movie.
They would need to have a really good development studio to pull it off... maybe Bethesda or BioWare, one of the ones really known for the quality of their games.
Personally, I thought it was a fun movie. The story was unoriginal, but meh, most of what Hollywood puts out is completely unoriginal. However, I wouldn't give much of a crap about an Avatar MMO. I know I probably wouldn't play it. I might try it out if something interesting was done with it, but probably nothing more than that.

You do realize pretty much everyone who has posted here have said 'no' to the idea right?

As an MMO, I honestly think that Avatar's graphics would disappoint. You'd need a really awesome computer to run graphics that were as good as the movies, and in an online setting? It would have some lag problems.
I do think that some of the things they thought up about the world were pretty interesting, though. You could have a lot of fun messing around with the environment and jumping around on trees and riding giant bird-dragon things.
I guess you could kill humans if you wanted to, or have players choose sides (Navi or human) but being a Navi would be more fun, imo, and the game would work better as single player.

Whether it was 'epic' or not is disputable.

It's like Second Life, except you get to stick your pony tail into everything.

I preferred those as well but I just don't see how they could make games out of them as they have kind of "touchy" subjects... (Apartheid (district 6) and Nazi slaughtering jews)
It'd be totally absurd for them to make a game about World War II. Good thing that would never happen.
