Hey folks, previously I was a ret pally for the guild, due to other tanks leaving the game in my guild, I have taken up the position of becoming the guild's main Prot Pally since we are progressing pretty well into ICC25 HMs. Currently this is
Me
. Granted the first things needed replacing are the shoulders & gloves (have tokens for both when available and gathering mats for
Pillars of Might
&
Boots of Kingly Upheaval
currently). The spec I've come up with is
this
and I've been reading Tankspot & EJ too for tips. Is there anything in particular I should take note of? I've always been more of a OT in the past and the transition to become a MT seems a bit daunting despite all the resources I have out there.

More experienced prots may pick up on other things (Hat, Quest...if I'm forgetting others I apologise) but the main issue I can see here is confidence. If you find the transition daunting maybe you should MT some older content, possibly ToGC10 or even ICC10 runs or something until you get used to it. I was in the same position with my druid and had to learn by diving in headfirst, not a fun experience but thats another story...
Can't say much about the gear, you've already said you're working on it so all thats left is best of luck!

I would agree with Hashshashins. Confidence is key.
MT's are often the people that lead the charge. As the tank in my 10 man group, I am the raid leader. I call for the healer CD's / bloodlusts / and DPS switches. It all depends on who else is raiding with you tho. Sometimes your roll as a MT will simply be to tank if your group knows what its doing.
In ICC the MT and the OT's jobs are very similar. Almost every fight after gunships the MT and the OT will do the same sort of tanking job. There are a few exceptions of course, but the only thing that differentiates a MT from a OT is that position of leadership.
Do you find yourself leading raids? Have you lead raids in the past?
Cheers,
Hat

Just to add to what hat said, be ready to make some changes on the fly. Unfortunately the only example I can think of at the moment is in older content but take jaraxxus, when an infernal drops next to you and starts casting the AoE you generally move him quickly, since you would be the MT it is up to you to make this change and it can often be something that is hard to get used to. Also anub is a good example, if you are tanking him and the ice patch disappears you have to be quick in moving him to another.
I know it may seem simple but when you are used to just being the OT these things can be difficult to get used to, hence my earlier advice that you use some older content to get into the swing of being an MT, ToC would probably be the best, it isn't hard but its not exactly faceroll like naxx.
In all I guess my point is that you are in control, you will be the one making the changes and when you've only been the OT........its easy to stay in the habit of relying on others to make the changes for you. You won't get the dps calling for <Boss X> to be moved or for <Add Y> to be focused, people turn to the tank for leadership.
Good luck and enjoy it :)

Generally I do not lead raids, last time I can really remember leading one back when BWL was still progression. Usually our other officers do that and I'm just more of a member. I understand about preemptive moving on certain fights and macroing or shouting out on CD's and all, though you never even really noticed that stuff as a OT. Dunno, its a process still and after coming from a dps standpoint, just seems odd taking control of your group, but with good intentions.

Get used to leading raids, even if other officers take over it is NEVER a bad quality to have, but see can you give it a try, just don't let the power get to your head.....like lifegrip will do to me on my priest when cata hits....can't help the fact that I'm weak. In all getting involved is always a good thing!

Lol we were joking a couple of nights ago about the power of life grip and what you could do with hit. funny how we though of more ways to pull people Into danger, than out of it. By the end of the night most of us were wanting bliz to add a " accept/decline" option to it LOL....cause that was speed things up =P
@djvortix Learn your fights, Learn ALL of your abilities. Keep reading wowhead paladins forums. either you will learn something from us.....or you will go insane, so it won't really mater.
Cheers,

Chances are both will happen but if you're like me you're already a nutjob so it won't make too much of a difference.
