Tanking CoS

I just tanked CoS on HC and ran into some rage from the healer. He rage quit because I didn't keep all the small guys off him. I would have loved to do it but he was standing 15 yards or so away while healing and running there to kill the small guys would give me problems with the elites, especially the spell casters.
So my question(s) is:
1 - Should I have tried to kill the small guys no matter the problems with the big guys?
2 - Should he have stood closer to me so my limited aoe + dps aoe could have killed them?
3- Should he have killed them himself? (I do that when I heal with my priest)
4- Should a dps have helped him?
It isn't really a big important question but I would like to know before I have to tank there again. He was a shammy if that is important.

Yes, the small non-elite mobs with around 1K hp that spawn all over the place.

He could have stayed near you and your aoe but if he prefered to stay there, he probably could outheal the gentle slaps he recieved from 3-4 zombies before a dps destroyed them in 1 aoe after the elites were dead.
I saw a mid gear druid outheal 80-90 zombies while I was doing Zombiefest so unless he was naked, the zombies should'nt have been a problem.

Paladin: Consecrate/Holy Wrath
Even easier : Retribution Aura.
I never keep those off my healers and never received any complains, any healer with a brain will take them out by himself or stand next to me so the zombies run right into my Thunder Claps.

When I'm healing (druid) I keep thorns on myself and I always stand up with the tank. Nothing in the instance cleaves, so there's no reason not to be up with the melee.
The mobs have almost no health and do almost no damage. They are annoying because they cause pushback, but it's not the tank's job to get rid of them. Healer should either stand with the tank, or kill them himself.

And if you're lucky, you lost aggro on a mob that hopefully killed another player so you can blame the healer ;)
We are talking about behaviours and properly thinking when grouping with others(especially ppl who u don t know) here and that: if u re lucky and lost aggro to die another teammate so u can whine to the healer is not great either mate.
To OP:
He was really stupid in the fact that he could own this pests with ease-1 simple aoe and they are done-as i remember in both tanking and healing this instance rarely i turned my attention to them.
Only for fun.
More than enough players are toying with these adds using their aoe's like rogues using fan of knives etc even me on my shammy i put the magma totem near me and they are burned to dust so no excuses from his part.
You can always intervene him and then charge to the elites in no time-a macro for these situations is a must not for CoS particularly but a macro to intervene and then head up with a charge really helps and imo is a must-
So no worries :).
Apparently wow is not an IQ game or requirement....(harsh but u always see something like that)
