False hopes you can cling to to survive everyday life. But hey, who am I to take that from them?
Nobody, as you can't disprove it.

You don't die into nothingness (well, in most conceivable death scenarios, anyway). You become "worm food." They actually make "green" coffins now to help speed the process along, instead of being some vain corpse you can be something useful to the environment.
This. The closest form to reincarnation that I believe in is that my death will lead to a chain process that could just cause the life of many more creatures, who would do the same to others, and so on, until eventually I have fueled the life of millions.

I can say for a fact that we do not all live on Midgard with a single landmass surrounded by oceans and that if I climb a rainbow I will find the realm of the Gods, all created from the various material contained in a giant corpse.
I believe that believing in something because you can't disprove it is just as foolish as believing in something despite it having been proven.

Um, Midgard = Earth realm. And seeing as it was based on Norway itself, that reasoning itself is a flawed idea. But whatever, you don't believe in an afterlife, Funden does, and I have no doubt I'll end up on the Wheel of Reincarnation; that's fine, everyone is allowed their own beliefs and ideas. If you don't like that, too bad for you.

I just said that, but then he had to say "Because I can't prove it." I couldn't help myself.
Midgard is the earth realm, a solitary continent dotted with a few minor islands created from the corpse of a giant giant. It is connected to Asgard and possible Vanaheim by Bifrost, a giant rainbow bridge. I can tell you for a fact that rainbows are light filtered through water, not a solid bridge to the next level of Yggdrasil.

Sure, they are now; can you say, 100%, that at one point they didn't connect to another realm? But again, who cares? I mean really, no one here is 'forcing' you to believe anything, so stop with the snotty remarks and veiled insults at others.

Does anyone else find it horribly ironic when people of faith throw the 100% certain remark around?
Sorry, had to say it. Take it as an insult if you will, but that's not how it's intended.
No, I can't. Does that mean I should? I have nearly every reason to believe contrary. The human race will never get anywhere if we just say, 'Oh, I don't want to sail around the world because I'm not 100% certain it's round."

I find it more ironic that you feel the need to attack other people's faiths, then dress it up as 'but science says this'.

Well, I'm 100% atheist, and frankly, I'm quite comfortable with the concept of death being an absolute finality. Religion was created (inc. flame war) to (among other things) provide answers to unanswerable questions. However, it is my belief that these questions do not need to be asked at all, for they are of no consequence. The fact of the matter is, we are alive, and we only have a short time upon this earth. Even pondering the question of death is like pondering what you'll eat for dinner while you're eating lunch - an utterly pointless waste, as you will not enjoy your 'lunch' as much if such considerations cloud your mind. I don't need an image of greeting me after I die. I live in the present, by my own set of (mostly positive) morals, outside of any religious moral code. Religion is mankind's sippy-cup, and we have yet to be weaned from it (something that I believe is necessary to achieve our true potential).
It also helps to look at life as the result of chaos, i.e. a series of entirely random events that took place in an infinitely existing cosmos to gradually create Earth and all of the creatures on it. We're merely conscious, living matter. When we die, we return to our purest elemental form, stripped of the consciousness afforded us by our highly developed minds. While this all may seem pessimistic to you, I assure you it is not - I am quite happy and at peace with the fact that my existence is simply a result of chance, and that my end will one day come about.

You aren't 100% sure if I cut your head off you will die. Does that mean you're willing to let me cut your head off?
Agree with Orranis. There is almost always a level of uncertainty (because we can't know everything). Now, that uncertainty may be so unreasonably small that its ignorable, but if you require 100% prove to be persuaded of something, you are an idiot. There's no getting around that. You are a stupid moron if you believe that someone should provide evidence beyond all doubt to persuade you, when you believe in something in spite of an overwhelming majority of evidence. Period.

Period.Err... I'd say it somewhat differently.
If you believe in a deity, despite there being no evidence for it, that's fine.
If you demand evidence for something else, you're a hypocrite.
Likewise, if someone provides credible evidence for something, something that has no evidence should not be given equal treatment.
As far as death goes, I can prove, beyond a resonable doubt, that my body with decompose after I die. I can also explain how my brain, through electrical impulses and aided by an assortment of hormones and other chemicals, generates consciousness. Once my brain decomposes, stops sending electrical impulses, and my various glands stop producing hormones, I can then conject that my consciousness will cease.
Anything regarding a soul or afterlife is pure blind faith, and there exists no evidence (true, tested evidence), to suggest that consciousness is anything more than what is biologically appears to be.
If you can provide testable, credible evidence for the existance of a soul or spirit that will survive death, then we will consider it, test it, and attempt to find out how it works.
Until then, I will put my faith in what we can see, test, and understand, rather than just guess, hope and believe.

Rational unimpaired humans can overcome being conditioned to think certain ways. Therefore, if someone can't overcome such conditioning, said person must have an impaired mind. The only reason to hold a belief that has no logical basis is because said person has been conditioned to hold such a belief or doesn't understand that there isn't logic to their belief. If said person doesn't understand that there isn't logic to their belief, said person must have an impaired mind.
Either way, if a person holds a believe that has no logical basis, said person must have an impaired mind, or in other words, they are an idiot.

Your scientific method is flawed. That...and you contradicted yourself.
You didn't actually provide an argument to refute the logic. I'm going to take that as suggesting that you begrudgingly accepted the logic of it.

TheMediator... shutup.
Stop insulting people you don't agree with *cough* religious people *cough* Just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean you can throw snide comments all the time at them.
