Technically, BiS will change depending on fight mechanics. AoE max DPS will be more dependent on abilities that prioritise Divine Storm, for example. Haste is weighted more heavily when you have T10 2pc and care about AoE.

The biggest reasons lists might vary:
- Taking into account racial and/or faction bonuses
- Taking into account what level of content you have access to
- Taking into account the author's personal preference
Those are the three biggest reasons I've seen and that's why I like using
the lists on EJ
, because they take most of that into account.
By the way, plate really does tend to be poorly itemized so leather gear can and will outperform it in some cases. That's slated to change in patch 4.0, but that's such a long way off you might as well pick up the BiS leather items now and use them for a few months until it's time to switch back to plate.
People who argue that leather gear is no good for Paladins (or any plate wearer, but Paladins especially) should go do a little research and learn their class first.

It's true, a lot of the itemization on plate dps gear in ICC is lousy for paladins. Expertise and armor pen on everything? Come on! I mean, armor pen is now somewhat better for pallies due to DS being a more prominent part of our rotation with 2pc T10, but it's not something I'm going to want to stack to the roof. Sure, fury warriors love it, but I'm finding it impossible to find pieces with good old crit and haste on them. Not even a single solitary 2hander with those stats on it.
ORLY?
No.

Oh, ok, my eyes deceived me for a moment.
Honestly tho. He is right.
These
are the only weapons with Crit and Haste that ret paladins can use. And while Bloodfall maybe be a very good weapon, It is sad that there is none out there with STR crit and haste. And don't link Quel'Delar again, because 1.) its only 251, 2.) Bryntroll, the Bone Arbiter is better and it drops from the first boss in ICC. Bryntroll is much more accessible than Quel'Delar.

Right, and by giving a proc, instead of base stats, Blizz has made Bryntroll attractive to all 2h classes, including paladins. +2 sockets you can throw whatever your heart desires into them.
...as long as your heart desires Bold Cardinal Rubies. :-P
(I saw a DK with a spellpen gem in a Bryntroll. Spellpen? Really? Does that even do *anything* anymore? Lol.)
Was he PvP specced? Having your diseases get resisted constantly kind of breaks Death Knights. They will sometimes gem spellpen up to 130.

It's better than spellpower, at least.
