I hear it alot, people blaming the pet for aggroing things after mobs begin to run away. They don't understand this game mechanic I guess. Who's the 'tard now?
To prevent my pet chasing fleeing mobs I add this to all of my macro'd shots:
/petattack @target
or something similar, so my pet is always attacking my target, keeps them under control quite nicely.

The Story of the Hunter Who Went SM: Armory
There once was a hunter named Cowchan,
who with her wolf wanted to do an SM-run,
she qued up for Armory since it was her favorite instance,
but the tank sucked and she had to do some serious hunter dance.
When they get closer to Herod things becomes bad,
the tank makes a huge pull but no one's mad,
as she dps her hardest the mobs drop in hp,
and as they do so some of them start to flee!
After goes Wolfenstein as the shot from a bow,
and as we all know, fleeing mobs causes aggro,
but Cowchans group they don't care,
they just point at Wolfie and angrily glare.
"Your pet took aggro and caused us to wipe!",
"l2 control it or u fail at life...",
no one ever told her that it would be so hard,
to be a little auto shooting Huntard...:(
Don't ask me why I turned this very true story into a "poem"...
Win...

Too bad it's not the pet going after mobs that causes aggro, but the actual fleeing mob itself.
Also, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air memes are getting old (although this one was pretty good).
Anyways... Huntards are still prevalent, but they've largely been replaced by Deathtards and Retardins (DK: Why faceroll from 1-80 when you can faceroll from 55-80? Pally: 2 buttons to level up with from 1-60? Win!)

I don't proclaim to be an awesome hunter myself, but throughout my hunter 'life' I've always read guides on shot rotations, pet management, talent builds, etc. and I have never been criticised for the way I play in instances (except obvious mistakes like accidentally tab-targeting the wrong thing & wiping the group, in which case I really deserve the blame).
And now when I play my priest, I do see more retarded hunters than retards of other classes. Usually you get hunter pets stealing aggro, but I got so $%^&ed off at a hunter who kept his pet on passive and not sending it off attacking the entire time. I asked him why, he said because pets are only for tanking. *facepalm* And I rarely see hunters in random dungeons topping the DPS meters, mostly because they have their talents completelyyyy wrongggg.
So I guess we as a class deserve the 'huntard' stigma...

Upon rezzing, I get kicked from the group, amid multiple "Huntard" insults... So I put pet on aggressive and have him charge into the same pack of mobs that killed us, after putting MD on the main healer and pulling a second group with multi-shot
Revenge is a dish best served on a silver platter, with the healer as a main course.
But doing this during a raid, with people from your server, that's gutsy.
Random pugs are better (see - for your reputation) ways to get out some frustration... THAT, and griefing lowbies in neutral zones. <-- My personal fave

So this thread simply -begs- the question.. What is it about hunters as a class that makes the "huntard" so popular? Especially today in the time of the loladin and the loldk which have been easily AS prevalent in this whole expansion.
Is it cause they're so easy to level? Hell
ANY class
is easy to level nowadays with BoA gear coming out or ears. and it's really not any easier to level a paladin (and certainly no easier than a DK... lol 58 free levels)
Is it cause we're a class that's pet reliant? Nah, cause you very rarely hear anything about locktards or anything of that nature.
Is it cause BM was
the
damage spec for BC? Hmm. Possibly. Lol beastial wrath and win the game.
So, what is it, in your hallowed opinions, that causes so many numbskulls to be hunters? I understand everyone has a bad day (see Ciabli's story a few posts up), but I refuse to believe that the sheer number of nitwits all boil down to "he was having a bad day that day".

IMO, it's a combination of it being a VERY easy class to play and the pet. Once you get your pet you just pewpewpew (sure, any class is easy to level, but not everyone has a DK or BoAs... and some classes can be a pain to level to certain people).
And with the pet, the idea of taming a variety of beasts IS cool.
Also, in my experience, most people gravitate to any type of class that is rogue-y or ranger-y in nature (before I played WoW I played some free MMOs like Rappelz and ROSE Online, and the ranger/rogue type classes in both those games were the post mopular). And this in part is probably due to dual wielding swords, and also because they're usually elves.

First off I will tell a little true story:
I queued up for a random dungeon, 12 or so minutes later I am put in a H PoS group with not one, not two, but THREE dk's and a priest I think. I even told them, "this is not going to end well" Now to the actual huntard part. Before the first boss, the fail tank dk says to me, "hey huntard, you need to pick your dps up bud, it really is sucking." Fist of all, just shut up, if I'm doing the highest dps out of all three of the dk's put together (not really but still...) I'm NOT lacking in dps.
So first boss, 5-10 seconds in to it, wipe. And guess what, it's my fault again, "you need to pull your dps up you *%#*" and you get the point. I calmly tell him we wouldn't have wiped if he had been a better tank. Healer and I leave.
So the moral of the story, one dk's suck (sorry guys =) and two, we get blamed for the stupidest things.
