The fact of the matter is that there is a stigma against FoL paladins, and for good reason. HL is better than FoL in hard mode encounters with heavy single target damage, there is no debating this.
If you want to get away from that stigma, go HL gearing, if you don't care, keep on keeping on, FoL vs HL doesn't matter in normal modes.

FoL throughput is currently downright awful for the jobs Holy Paladins are assigned to hardmode content. In that content, people on the Wowhead forums coined the term "
The Carry Spec
" after it became pretty clear how little gemming for SP actually affected your ability to heal.
Some Wowhead members have theorycrafted out every benefit gemming Intellect gives you. I'd rate their work higher than the EJ thread for Holy actually. The thing is skimpy on hard evidence on their "FoL Focus" style being competitive or useful at all. When it comes down to it, using FoL when you're a Holy Paladin usually means you're sniping heals that would otherwise be covered by a good raid healer. FoL loses its draw the second that there's another healer that's good at topping off the raid.

Aslong as your not using FoL when the person your healing obviously needs a HL, i dont see the problem. why waste the mana on a massive overheal that isnt needed?
Currently i only use HL when i need to, other wise i FoL + Holy shock. if the tanks below 75% health i HL.
Edit: and when i know theres damage inc.
No !@#$.
What I'm saying is "Do not mainly use one heal or the other, base it off of damage taken, but never expect FoL to be enough to top off a tank that's taken more than 80% damage." You yourself seem to have a good understanding of that, but you've missed my 50 other posts that say that same thing.

FoL-only paladins have no reason even being in a raid harder than normal ToC these days.
Any other type of healer will be overall better for your raid than a FoL spam paladin. You have 4 heals, might want to use all 4.
Oh, and the reason you get brought to raids is because of Holy Light, not because you can spam FoL the entire time and not go OOM. Any healer can do that.

It's mostly a sliding scale of HL and FoL usage. Another thing that pushes people towards Holy Light builds is that you can use a Holy Light set up in earlier tiers just fine. Your FoL won't hit as hard and you'll have to Holy Light more often, but this is countered by your larger mana pool.
The reason that I talk about this so much is that gemming Spell Power doesn't really increase your healing by that much. Flash of Light has a 100% coefficient with SP, but the difference in SP between one that gemmed and trinketed for SP and one that gemmed and trinketed for Intellect won't be big enough for FoL to heal that much more. Maybe 1000 more healing on every FoL would be great if FoL could actually handle incoming damage, but it comes at the expense of 15k mana and hundreds of mp5. I'm thinking higher end gear, but I'm also thinking that a mana pool is usually what holds Holy Paladins back. Keeping up with damage is no problem the way that Blizzard designed Paladin healing in Wrath, it's maintaining your mana to actually be able to heal where the difficulty of the spec lays. They made a big mistake in allowing us to use Holy Light to extent we can right now, well, because it's not a very kosher design combined with Beacon of Light. Any tank damage taken can easily be healed up by two Holy Paladins. Even 30k hits can be cleanly healed up in less than 1.5 seconds.

Any paladin gearing for a FoL-spam should be hit over the head with a forum brick, forcefully fed all the bile on 4chan and get a shallow grave.
You dont have to do hardmodes for HL/int to be viable. If you manage raiding with FoL-spam build/gearing you are beeing carried.
