Trying to find a ranged dps class that can do well in both pve and pvp.
Have a hunter too but no self heals at all is literally killing me.
And I cant stand lvling mage/priest, and boomkin isn't good enough and haven't bothered with shaman much, totem management is a mess.
Lock looks good on all fronts so far.

I was leveling my frist toon (A mage, I almost choose hunter cause I wanted a companion so badly but loved magic and casting spells of doom to much.) And I enjoyed my mage so very much, but at level 58, 2 levels from the cap I was hacked.
Annoyed, not so much angry, by the fact I would have to level a mage all over again made me furious. There was no way I would deal with all that time sitting to drink because I had not enough mana to burn my victim alive with a fireball.
I had asked blizzard to restore my mage (They actually never did...) and after about 2 weeks break from WoW, I came back to find my mage was still gone.
Angered and convinced I would not get my mage back, I scrolled over to the "Create New Character" button.
There I sat, decideing between paladin or warrior.... Finally I reminded my self of how close I was to chooseing a hunter. I created my hunter, convinced he would be great and more enjoyable to explor with than my mage ever was. After about level 20, I knew he was not for me. My pet Splieneater, was my most cherished friend in the game, and I was mad at myself of being bored of a hunter.
I logged out. I went back to the "Create New Character" screen. I looked at a warlock. It had a pet to battle with it threw the blood hungry monsters of AQ and the moaning deadly undead of Naxxramas.
The warlock was a caster, of more deadly, tormenting spells than a mage would even dare to dabble in. I was a slave to the dark magics a warlock possed. Tortureing their victim and making them squeal till they begged for their life on their knees was nothing but desireing.
I created the cutest looking warlock gnome ever. She had the bluest eyes, and the darkest hair a gnome was offered. I logged in, and as I leveled my warlock I grew to love it. It was the best experience in WoW I remember having.
I now PvP and PvE on my warlock main. Needless to say, she is as deadly as they come.

Started WoW off rolling a DK (typical, I know.) primarily because I was more intrigued towards darker themes and also being plate made me feel beefier. A while later, I got to 75, had to re-roll because my friends came back to WoW and they were horde so I chose a lock since they were the 2nd "dark/malevolent" themed class in WoW and also because Dk's skill set was too monotonous for my taste. Weeks later, got to 80, got as far as gearing up with craftables/reg80dungeon gear until people told me I couldn't run heroics with them because they "didn't want to carry me" (this was on tichondrius, and at that time people were requiring that you be togs25geared to do anything), so after a week and a couple days I grew tired of waiting 20 minutes in queue for a dungeon and then getting kicked after for being "undergeared" so then I rolled a warrior tank.
I had the impression that if I was a tank, I could queue instantly, get gear considerably faster than my warlock, and eventually hit a WH/GS score high enough to do endgame content with the general populace on my server. But after I hit 80 on my warrior and donned all my titansteel and rep/80 dungeon gear I was instantly berated at from my first heroic group and was told to gtfo and die seeing that I was not 40k unbuffed like some tanks you could come across. Then in the later months to come I rolled a paladin thinking my Uber-class could carry me through anything, didn't work out too well. Got frustrated, deleted all my characters, came back 4 months later, rolled a shaman until 80, got tired of gearing for range/melee dps and getting facerolled in PvP. So now I'm in the process of re-leveling a lock--
Start reading here and ignore all of the above if you do not want to read my biography:
>>because I came to the conclusion that if I was a warlock I did not have to roll on a wide array of gear like a shaman or any hybrid class, I no longer had to worry about fulfilling my obligation to overly-impress the people I ran dungeons/raids with (tanking), and finally, I did not only have awesome potential in only PvE but not PvP (no offense to enh shamans). Essentially, it's those 3 points that really motivate me to play a warlock. (Also the cataclysm changes to warlocks make me fuzzy inside, they really do.)

Little backstory, I guess. Been playing MMOs for 10 years, and mostly in the last few years I'm back and forth between EQ and WoW. I've always loved the Necromancer class on EQ (DoT based combat is <3), and in fact had rerolled my monk to a necro for a while. However, the one thing I absolutely cannot stand in an MMO is to kite for XP. and that's what you get as a necro.
So last time (2.5 weeks ago) I went to EQ, pulled up 3 accounts. Made a necromancer (For the DPS, and the joy of playing one), a bard (for the ease of pulling, tap buttons and leave), and a mage (so the pet could tank). Spent most of my time ont he necro during combat. Got tired of playing 10 hours a day to play "catchup".
battle.net account got stolen, and in the process of getting it back, my father renewed his account (Both of our accounts are on 1 battle.net). I thought "Eh, why not?" and started my WoW account back up as well. As he plays alliance and my paladin is horde, I had to make a new char. My first thought was "DoT gameplay..hrm..Don't want to go back to playing a DK, already been through that.. Warlock?"
And thus, my warlock was born. And eventually I'll make myself get around to leveling. I just hate the 10-20 zones for alliance so freaking much /sigh
