What made you roll a lock?

When I first starting playing, I rolled an undead warlock. My friend at the time had a 70 Belf lock and wanted to show me some of the 'cool' aspects of lockdom. Got to see the plethora of demons, which was a huge selling point.
I only rerolled to have skin and sassy earrings.

final fantasy XI (the first FF MMO) came out i played a BLM.
regarding the others who play with their wives, i wish i could get my wife involved in this hobby. she thinks (correctly) that i'm a massive geek ^_^
Same reason.
My girlfriend plays a holy paladin.

I originally rolled a warrior when i started off and I found it a bit too hard for my style. Then I rolled a druid, but I found that boring. Then I rolled a warlock, and it was just right. . .
. . . Then I rolled a shaman, and that was just right as well. Then I rolled a DK out of curiosity, and it felt like a "melee warlock" so I naturally found it right. But now, I'm back on my lock. Why? Because it was the best fit out of all.

the reasons for me choosing a warlock go back to my history of final fantasy games (>.< i know).
i always liked the black mages in those games (
vivi in FFXIII being the prime example
) and when final fantasy XI (the first FF MMO) came out i played a BLM. i got it to max level along with various sub-classes but BLM was my main. he was a taru taru (tiny little cute fella).
I finally read the entire thread, and I'm in my usual nitpicking mood.
So I'll ask you this asakawa: don't you mean FFIX instead of FFXIII when you talk about Vivi? I only played the intro of FFXIII so far, but I don't believe they have ever recycled character names ... (names of summons on the other hand return in pretty much every game).
<== FF fanboy ^_^ (too bad I started a bit late, I didn't get to enjoy FFVII, which is seen as the best of the series)
Edit: as to why I became a warlock: I'm always drawn to "evil" characters in games, and the summoning of minions also appealed to me.
I started a druid first though (when I read the description in the manual, I saw it as a sort of "multiclass" class, and I was drawn to the shapeshifting mechanic), and my druid is still my main. I do tend to have an urge to life tap on my druid however ... not a good sign xD

it is indeed IX. d'oh!
two mistakes in one phrase there. not only did i get mixed up between 8 and 9 but i also said 13 instead of 8 O.o
after the massive success of VII, VIII and IX were viewed as failures by a lot of people but VIII was a bold departure after VII and IX remains one of my favourites, largely thanks to vivi.

IX was the first one I played, and I enjoyed it very much. But my all time favorite so far is hands down FFX. FFX-2 was a disappoint for me, but that's largely due to mechanics, and the story making little sense. I didn't like the gambit system from FFXII either. The story was a bit too military as well imo
So far, I like FF13 as well. We'll see how it turns out, but it looks very promising.
No, there's no Vivi; you're correct. I played the game 100% through and the name never appeared. They always recycle Cid though.
I totally forgot about Cid :) But then again, he's usually not a playable character.
... but wait! I believe we were talking about WoW, weren't we? ^_^

wow-shmow! FF ftw ^_^
x-2's story was pretty bad but the combat was really wonderful and you could say foreshadowed 13s combat mechanics. i really didn't like 12 either. i heard they were developing it as another online game and then decided to stick with single-player at some point in the dev cycle. i think that showed and the game suffered for it.
i await XIV with GREAT interest.
ok, apologies to the vast majority of readers who have zero interest in FF games

You mean those people actually exist? xD
I did notice that the gambit system in XII had a bit of WoW in it (needing a tank, dps and a healer :p), but you didn't have as much control over your characters as in the good old turn based system I love so much.
The biggest reason I prefer FFX over FFX-2 is actually pretty lame. in FFX, you can take your sweet time selecting your actions, and it even shows who's next in line to do his thing! In FFX-2, however, you need to press your actions asap, or else you opponent scores a few hits! I tried switching it over to "wait mode", but for some reason that doesn't work ...
I like taking my sweet time ^_^

My first warlock? My guild wanted a banish @#$%^ for MC.
The one I actually play currently? Nostalgia mostly.
