Its a simple question of effective health vs avoidance, I know when it comes down to it I prefer to place my gold on a sure bet. Besides its not like healers don't have the resources these days to heal you with everything they have till enrage timers.

Stamina is also pretty much the only stat guaranteed to help you live. Magic damage makes armor sad. AoEs and stuns make avoidance sad. DoTs make everything sad. Even in the bizarre case of % based attacks stamina still helps more than armor, and more than avoidance if they're AoE or otherwise unavoidable. You still have more flat HP left at the end if you have more stamina.

Just thought it needed mention that the only exception to this rule is anub in ToTGC where stam stacking is just dragging out your phase 3 (though its not as important these days).

To me it seems that stam stacking would be more beneficial when in ICC. You already get the penalty to dodge in ICC, and now, with the 10% stamina, damage and healing bonus, your effective health really gets pumped up from stam stacking (talents + sanctuary + class buffs + raidwide buff). This number will only grow as the raidwide buff continues to grow.
Just a few things to clear up here.
1.) The dodge Debuff is for a subtraction of 20% of your dodge. It does not make dodge 20% less effective. Dodge rating still gives the same amount of dodge rating point for point inside ICC or outside ICC.
2.)The buff is for

% of your HEALTH. Not stamina. While having more stamina will contribute to the buff giving you more health,
it will not increase others things such as the Spell-power gained from stamina.

that being said. There are always things to consider while socketing. Most of the time, if you are doing end game content, going mostly stam is the best way to do things. As others have mentioned, taking RNG out of the fight, and using stam to be prepared for none mitigated attacks, are the highlights of using stam.

I have seen both ways for the way that people stack.
I have seen All Stam gems with a Nightmare in a slot of the best bonus.
And I have seen the pairing for socket bonuses.
Gemming for the sockets bonuses is the main choice for most Protadins. Red (+10 agility +15 stam purple) and Yellow (+10 def. and +15 stam green) But you only want to take the bonuses if it gives you +9 stam or better anything less or other bonuses aren't worth the time. If you follow this then the other stats will fall in place.

Easily put, the more you approach end-game (HC 25man), the more pure stamina you want. But its absolutely ok to gem hybrids in normal modes.

. Stamina no longer gives spellpower. But we'll forgive you, since everything else you post is usually bang on the money :)

No. use a 10 agil + 15 stam gem to activate your meta, usually in your helm with a +12 stam bonus. Nightmare Tear is not for tanks.

People use the Nightmare Tear for the best bonus if they stack nothing but stam gems. Some of the Top Pally's on my server do this. If your one of those pallys then go for it. I however am not.

People that match items with 2 sockets for bonus of +9 stam or higher don't use the nightmare tear. Its not worth it for us.

Stam Pally FTW
If u have good gear u will have enough avoidance/threat to just Stack Stamina
If Your gear is baddie u should get Both Avoidance and Stamina
