Ok, looks like most people in this thread are saying not to get extra resilience as a Rogue.
And yet, in Arena, don't most people attack Rogues first? If you're usually the kill target, wouldn't getting a little extra defense make sense, to help out your team?
People may say, "Oh, but you're a Rogue! You should be controlling the battle, getting a Sap, and Cheap Shot, and going all-out offense!"
I then say, "What Arena rating have reached?" Seriously, when does the battle ever end that quickly, against 30k+ HP targets with resilience themselves, that I don't end up taking some hits as a Rogue?
It just seems to make logical sense to me, if I'm usually the kill target, then some extra resilience would be a good thing. And besides, in 3's and 5's, it's not like the game is decided by my sheer damage output. What Rogues bring is control, Kidney Shot, Kick, Disarm, and reduced healing, Wound Poison, and slows, Crippling Poison, over a long fight, after cooldowns are blown.
Maybe Attack Power would be more useful in 2's, where your damage output is important. In my 5's team, I'm usually the kill target about 75% of the time. In my 3v3 team, I'm over 2,000 Arena rating, and I have 1300 Resilience. Stacking resilience works for me.
But then again I play with an Affliction Warlock, and his long-term damage output and control help win the fight. My initial burst isn't as much needed, I just need to survive early. I'd say there's no set # answer to the poster's original question, "how much is too much", it really depends on what comp you're running, and more importantly, which bracket, 2's, 3's or 5's.

To offer some numbers, top 5 Mutilate Rogues, according to SK gaming, have the following amounts of Attack Power and Resilience:
Kajn, 5332 Attack Power, 730 Resilience.
Ashrah, 5087 Attack Power, 1193 Resilience.
Rexst (who plays with Bilian, best Priest in the Game) 5097 Attack Power, 1210 Resilience.
Chema, 5042 Attack Power, 894 Resilience.
Fuzion, 4906 Attack Power, 995 Resilience.
The numbers vary from as low as 730 to as high as 1210. And those are just the top 5 Mutilate Rogues, I bet there'd be more variance from top 25. Like I said, it really depends on what comp you're running, and what bracket you're fighting in.
But, with the changes to resilience in the recent patch, its effectiveness almost doubling, the old days of TBC stacking offense and Attack Power, completely ignoring resilience, are far gone.
Random Tip: If you do decide to get some PvE gear, try to avoid Armor Penetration if you're Envenom specced, since you do lots of damage with your poisons/Envenom which already ignore armor.

This person speaks the truth! But if you're just looking for a good middle ground, then 1k resilience is good to aim for.

As some of the above posters have said, it really depends on what bracket you're playing in, and what comp you're playing.
If you're playing 2s, you could probably get away with around 900 resi, that's what I aim for atleast.
In 3s, I wouldn't dip below 1000 resi, mainly because you get focussed quite alot, and most of your teams damage will come from your (wizz) partner anyways.
Also, just gem full AP, 10 stat gem in a blue socket somewhere, and ur good to go.
If you've got access to great PvE offsets (264/277) I'd personally use those and gem AP/resi in the yellow ones, if you feel you're a bit low on resi, just don't use 20 resi gems.
Hope this helped

So what you people say is going for Bright Cardinal Ruby all the way, exept for 1 Nightmare Tear and other colors to get meta gems work?
Nightmare Tear is enough to get the meta requirement, thats why you use it.

And where do you get these magical numbers from?
