He's the
Lich
you fight below Naxx, when Bolvar shows up at Westguarde to help you.

That.. kind of answers that. He becomes a lich, Bolvar kills him.

The Rivendare in 80 Naxx is an impostor--there's a
book
in the DK starting zone suggesting such anyway.
Or the Rivendare in Stratholme was the impostor.

I think it's Stratholme, as he takes the Ring which is a forgery and says "Baron" Rivendare etc.

It's also speculated that Montoy is the son of Kel'thuzad.

*double take*
Explain please!
His name is a reffernce to "The Princess Bride" character who says:
Hello, my name is Inigo Montoy. You killed my father, prepare to die.
Some people speculate that his name is more then a tribute, and is, in fact, a hint towards the idea that Kel'thuzad is his father.

I think it's Stratholme, as he takes the Ring which is a forgery and says "Baron" Rivendare etc.The rnig isn't a forgery, he means forging a document allowing him passage, using the ring to verify it.
But yeah, I'd agree that, if one of the Barons is an imposter, it'd be the one in Strat.
Edit: Although a comment there also made me think:
Is this book meant to imply that the Baron Rivendare seen in the DK opening chain, and in the Naxx in Northrend isn't the real Baron, but the author of this book? I was wondering how he was still alive after I definitvely gave his head to the Argent Dawn

'My name is Inigo Montoy. You killed my father, prepare to die'
I want my father back you son of a *censored*Epic movie. I want to know who would win in a fight between the Dread Pirate Roberts (Wesley) and Aragorn.

Wesley. Aragorn is only good at cleaving lame orcs. (Lame orcs as in the ones on LotR, not that orcs are lame.)
