I know, and Dresden as well. But we were the lesser of two evils when you consider Germany and Japan's war crimes.
I don't really think you can call the killing of thousands, if not millions, of civilians 'the lesser of two evils' because really, how do you quantify evil?

We killed thousands or millions of civilians, yes, but the Germans killed 6 million Jews alone, and that's not counting the Soviet civilians killed, or Japan's warcrimes against China and Korea.
And @Daddyflex: When you are talking about 100,000+ civilians raped and killed in one city alone, I would count that as a warcrime, yes. Unit 731 committed many atrocities as well, in the same manner as Mengele.

A life stolen by an atrocity of war is the same, no matter if it was by a Japanese troop or an American one, nor a British one or a German one. The war was full of evil acts on all sides, and I think that the evil was pretty much equal. I'm sure that an American or a Brit would have raped and tortured a German or a Japanese civilian just as the Japanese and Germans did. The only difference is that the Japanese war crimes were on a large scale in one go, and more highly publicised.
It's likely that the acts which may or may not have been committed by allied troops weren't publicised by the Allied countries, for morale and such-the-like; which makes it just as bad as a mass rape, because the government is actively trying to hush it up.

While we might have done acts just as evil on a small scale, theirs were on a massive scale. And scale does mean something.
We're off topic, anyway. Someone mentioned that the US had committed warcrimes in WWII, and I merely mentioned that Japan wasn't innocent either.
Let's get back on topic.

I don't think anyone rational would say that any of the main participants of WWII were innocent.
But still, on-topic, Iran might see everything in the middle-east as encroachment, and be talking big because with big threats, people are guaranteed to listen.

I find it funny that Iran thinks that it has the firepower to threaten the U.S. soldiers in the area.
The main reason is that if Iran tried to kill them all it would most likely be through Nuclear means, which would obliterate Iran from the map in the aftermath.
(And I'm not going "Oh the U.S. is better than them blah blah blah" I am merely pointing out that it would be almost impossible for Iran to engage the United States in a full out war.)

Except if America dropped a nuke in the middle east, the world would be over heh.

Depends on how they fight. I very much doubt that anyone anticipated Afghanistan to last 9 years.

True that, but insert Iran where America is and you have the same thing.

Indeed. I'm not exactly sure how Iran would fight so... I'm just speculating =P

I don't think Iran is capable of defeating the United States Army, mainly due to numbers. However, I also don't think that the US would be in the right at all to attack Iran at this time. Hell, they won't be in the right at any time, unless if the country clearly had nuclear weapons and intention to use them (and I'm not talking Dubya's "Iraqi WMD" bull#$%^). Right now the threat seems irrelevant, but if America suddenly attacked Iran, they'd have every right to retaliate.
Also, I hate how every political thread seems to devolve into America-bashing lately. Seriously, I hate the atrocities my country's committed in the past and present, but some people act like they want to condemn every aspect of it.This. As much as I dislike oppressive Muslim states, we don't really have any business "fixing" them unless they're seriously threatening us.

Isn't that what Iran is doing? Their whole secret nuclear program that nobody is supposed to know about that
may
be for civilian use... or weapons...

I tend to think that the whole situation over there is too unstable for us to consider premptively striking for whatever reason.

History is written by the victors (:
I know that, which is why I question sources and figures, mostly regarding WWII and the war-crimes that the Allies committed.
