The way I see it, any abbreviation other than "Lol" is just a sign of lowered intelligence. I don't want to pull out a decoder ring from a box of cereal every time I want to read a message you post.

For me, it's Plx. Same reason.

Was originally of typo of plz to plx, it caught on and "they" added the o to make it plox.
It's just another silly internet slang.

I'm surprised people aren't speaking Horde or Alliance race languages on forums.
What are you talking about? They speak Troll all the time.

I sometimes use it when I want to be an idiot.
It's super-effective when used in combination with Caps Lock.

I see "PLZ" more often. But yes, it's very annoying.
I even get a bit annoyed at some of the location/dungeon abbreviations. (Which, might even be a bit more justified)
I work in the medical field, which is fraught with abbreviations. The problem is, certain abbreviations can have totally different, even dangerously different, meanings for different facilities and different fields and specialties of medicine. (Cardiothoracic, Neuro, Osteo, Renal, Endocrine, etc.) There is a big movement on to eradicate, or at least vastly minimize and standardize, the abbreviations which are used. Stupid communicative mishaps can be responsible for catastrophic results, which could have been prevented by using just three or four more letters! (This is sort of like the incident in which the Hubble Space Telescope's mirror was completely futzed, and they didn't even discover it 'til the thing had been launched into orbit!)
And worse, I was in the military too, where I swear certain individuals spend time replacing old abbreviations with new ones, all of the time. I won't even get into what a mess THAT can be... especially, even multiplicatively, when you're in the medical corps. Anyhoo...
I 'm very well-able to put up with people not capitalizing letters. Fine. It's chat. I'm even tolerant of the odd spelling issue. We all place speed before perfection, most of the time, in-game. But people who are deep in the leet-speak? Puh-leeze. People who would rather use "Soz" than "Gee, I screwed up. My bad!"?
I'm sorry for how it may offend some of you, but I naturally think less of you when you are so blatantly, chronically, using some pidginized form of English, in-game.

This. Either this or me trying to be funny. For example, as a rogue, and no druids in the group... Resto druid piece of leather drops ---> "OMGZ KÄN AI HÄS FOR MY BANDAGESPEX LOLZ PL0X"
Good to know there's others as stupid? :D as me.

Plural of Moose is Meese
Groups of Meese are Meeses
I have fun bastardizing the English language lol!
But I do agree that sometimes it gets out of hand.
"Free gold pl0x!"
"Free st00f pl0x!"

It's not so much an abbreviation as a deliberate misspelling, a la Lolcats, and yea it is moronic, which of course is why it's been adopted by 95% of the WoW population.
Personally if I enter a group and someone goes "o hai gais we need moar deeps to pwn this boss ok pl0x?" I will either ignore them or leave outright.

I'm all for abbreviations. They save me thousands of keystrokes each day:
WTB, WTS, WTT, LF, VoA, WG, ICC, ToC10, DTK, Spriest, Boomy, Pal, Muti, JC, Chanter, Fort, Wis, GotW, BL etc etc etc.
As long as they're widely known. If I linked my Alchemy and some whispered me saying FotFW plz, I'd stare at my screen dumbfounded for about 5 minutes before realising they meant Flask of the Frost Wyrm. (I've never actually had this happen, just an example).
There's being down with the lingo, and then there's stupidity. pl0x is stupidity. Perhaps immaturity or attention-seeking are more appropriate words for it.

No one uses Pl0x because its shorter. Those people use the annoying "pls". Pl0x comes from Plx which is a typo of Plz, and some people now use Plx/plox as a joke.
