Some abbreviations are born and develop within a community that have no standing in civilised language. That said, I don't defend the bastardisation of English because you are too lazy to attempt to type properly. "Plz" is faster. "ICC," "OS," "Ocu," and others are faster. In a real-time chat setting--IM, WoW chat, IRC, etc.--I don't frown on the use of abbreviations. Typos and sheer laziness--
GIEF PURPL GLOVEZ NAO PL0X IS UPGRAED
--is just ridiculous.
I like Uber because it kinda originated from UBRS and everyone liked it....
Am I missing something here? The prefix "uber-" originated from the German "
über-
."

I believe in Freedom of speach / typing, But not when you are being a Bully to someone over how limited they are with spelling.
I'm afraid you don't get to make exceptions when claiming that you believe in freedom of speech. As soon as you put exceptions on it, you are instantly lying.
We have to put up with people like
this
if we want to claim that we approve of freedom of speech.
Voltaire
said it best.
Wel, according to the law f.ex. there is freedom of speech within the limits of the law(f.ex. pumping people up to do violant acts is against the law)

I don't mind shortening of Names and stuff a la ICC ToC, things like that. The usuall excepted stuff. But when people shorten please, and thanks, and yes. Well, enough said really. I just respond something along the lines of "Sorry, are you speaking english?" "Anyone else understand that?" etc etc. Depending on how much i'm easily annoyed at the time.
As an after thought, go stand in one of the towns in Runescape for 5 minutes and you will begin to fear for the future of the English Language.

Here's an example of conceit, from the trade chat last night:

It's perfectly understandable for a raid leader to want to get an easy raid done as fast as possible. If you're looking to learn fights and gear up, get a guild!

Dont get me started on the Your vs You're crap, its the same thing, ones for grammer natzis ones for not.
No, it's a matter of correct meaning. One indicates ownership (your dog), and the other indicates status (you are ___ => you're a __).
Also, one thing that goes along with the "your" vs "you're" thing is "there" vs "their". I feel like reaching through the screen and beating anyone who uses these incorrectly.
With regards to the Dwarfs vs Dwarves debate, it is actually mentioned in the notes on the text to Lord of the Rings about the publishers 'correcting' Tolkiens use of Dwarves to Dwarfs and then the subsequent re-correcting. Tolkien, being a professor of English Literature, would have known what he was writing.
