Racist? No it's not.

If you've actually felt and encountered real racism and had it affect your life, then you might understand. Clearly, you do not.
When people use the "A" version with each other, it's because they are trying to empower themselves by taking something negative and changing it to mean something else.
If you haven't been discriminated against or encountered real racism, then you have no right to take part.
If you think it's the same when you say it (even the "A" version), and then you think it's funny, then you're an idiot.

In that other thread that's now locked, I wanted to ask this question:
Why do the GM's always seem to kick you off for your ban while you're in the middle of an instance?
Everyone I've known ban-kicked, it happened while they were intensely involved in a dungeon fight. For instance, with my old Priest toon, while clearing Mara, and while we were fighting the final boss, Princess, tank isn't doing so well and I'm pumping out heals as best I could. Suddenly orange text shows up in chat, words to the effect I'm getting a 1 day sit out due to a naming violation; the æ in her name, I guess, it was still against the TOS then. BAM! and I'm logged out. Since it was a guild run, it wasn't a big deal, but when I got back on and mentioned what happened, some others in guild said their ban-kick happened in an instance, too. None happened while sitting around a city or questing.
It's like they're waiting for just the perfect time to rub the ban in, like sand on a sunburn.
Stupid question.

They took the word back, made it their own so it would lose the power; but it would be the same as any racial slur used on anyone; Italian, Japanese, Mexican, whatever; they can use the word, but the other races shouldn't, pretty simple really.

Exactly.
And because of that, if you haven't been affected by the word itself, you can't use the changed version, or any version of it.
Well, technically you can. But that would make you either a) racist b) an idiot or c) both.

I wouldn't find it funny. Hell, I'm white, I'd find it weird as hell.
But the fact is, and sway it all you like, it is acceptable in popular culture. It really is. In certain circles, and in certain contexts, admittedly, but it still is.
Now you can moan all you want about how I've not encountered racism and such, but you know I'm right here.
If THAT is acceptable, then WTF? Just, WTF. Fact is, racism is in meaning, and not in words.
Did you know for example that the 'racist' term for someone of Pakistani origin means 'Pure' in our language? Yeah, figure that out.
Just because you think it's racist, doesn't make it so.
Which leads me back to my title....
Harper,
Go out and splur the word for me in an area heavy populated by black people and then tell us how you feel when you come back... that is if you come back alive!

Since you are inferring to the locked post I will take that into account. I agree, just because someone thinks a word is racist doesn't make it so. But the most common use of N***** is as a racial slur. The GMs should have a zero tolerance policy with the word and all
popularly accepted racial slurs
. The OP of the locked post was right to report but wrong to use the words he condemned. It is unfortunate that it appears no action was taken by the GMs vs the people he reported. If the N word was allowed to be thrown around do you think trade chat or other public channels would be better? That should be what makes it a bannable offense or not.

What most people wont realize is that by saying 'I can use this word and you can't' is the same as saying 'I can do this but you can't, because we're not equal'. I thought it was this mentality, of limiting what you can or can't do based on race, which was the problem with the word. It's those who wont allow others to use the word, while using it themselves, who are racist.
Not one of my friends with a different skin-color than me have any problems with this. They call eachother names and I do so as well. While discussing racism we've all agreed that it'd be racist of them to not allow me to use a word based on the color of my skin.

"Racist" is likely
the
most abused counter-argument of American society. Not sure about your side of the lake, but it's gotten to the point here that some idiots use it politically to "prove a point" that just isn't there.

The history behind the word n***er is
much
more intense, painful, and cruel than the history behind any other racial slur. Cracker, chink, jap, etc.
Who gave YOU the authority to judge this? Based on what are you saying that the N word has a more painful history? Because other races don't feel hatred and discrimination as much as black people?
And on topic: I think all of these words are ugly and divisive. I would not hang around anyone who thought it was OK to call people any of them. Also, I don't buy all that stuff about "taking back the word". And to be honest, it is this sort of attitude that makes me really like most Africans I meet much more than most African Americans. I don't see them as physically different, I feel that Africans must experience the same type of racism but their attitude is completely different: in most cases I've found them to be delightful people, not at all hung up on that ONE aspect of life. African Americans just seem content with living in the past instead of moving forward, and using the N word amongst themselves is just proof of that to me personally.
