I'm too busy laughing at people that wear assorted sports jersies everywhere to notice anyway.
That defeats the whole point of the rest of your post.
A good chunk of people spend the majority of their life / free time playing/watching/following sports. Are they any different than you?
Very different, thankfully. Which
is
the point, so nice catch!
It's the 'mainstream' (sporty, faddish) types that will judge others for their less-than-popular interests. Because sports are 'normal'; after all, we're all raised to watch, play, and know the rules of ___ball since we're old enough to walk. But reading, video games, tabletop games...that's for nerds! People with no life, go out and get laid, go party, et cetera...according to the 'normal' crowd, anyway.
The abnormal folks, that just do their own thing, work, enjoy what they can get as it comes... you don't see that kinda stuff from them, not usually anyway. That's my crowd. ^_^
Again, you just countered your argument with your own example.
You say that their judging of gamers is bad. Yet you as a gamer judge them.

I never said it was bad, I said screw 'em if they do, and implied they're retarded anyway, since the limit of their imagination is throwing a ball of various shape or size across a playfield of varying shape or size.
All people judge each other based off one thing or another. Anyone that says they do not, is lying. But I think you have mistaken this thread with an argument over individual perception and the reasoning behind it. It's about flying your WoW colors in public, and why you do or don't.
However, Being a gamer, I would prefer not to have to mash someone's face if they are silly enough to screw with me based off a hoodie I'm wearing while I pass them by at Wal-Mart or something. If you'd like to make a thread more open to debate involving our perceptions of each other and why we think the ways we think, do it and we'll tear it up in there. Otherwise, post something relevant to the thread or stop posting here.

The main problem for me is
1 - i find 97% of the jinx shirts fugly
2 - i don't like it when it's too blatant
this shirt
would be nice except for the big bold yellow BLIZZARD on the back, unless i'm wearing my hair long all the time when i'm wearing it.

Thing is, you're not exactly setting a good example for the "gamer" crowd that you mentioned.
Sure, you may think that throwing a ball around is "retarded". Do you actually have any idea how incredibly complex and difficult it must have been for a group of people to actually sit down and devise rules and guidelines for these sports? "Get the ball in the goal" is the point of the game, sure, but there's a lot more thought involved in sports than that.
Get a grip on yourself. Everybody is judgmental to an extent, I will also agree with you there. But to go as far as to make such a rash generalization about an entire group of people? That's pretty low, man. You may argue that "they" have been doing that for ages; it is true that "nerds" are generally looked down upon and made fun of, but it's irrational to say that the "mainstream" types are to be held accountable. In fact, simply by grouping all of these people into one category, you are essentially doing what you are accusing
them
of doing. The types of people who are into sports and fads vary greatly from person to person, just as the WoW playerbase does. Just because two people like sports does not mean they share the same views.
I am speaking as a WoW player since classic WoW and as a sports fan since I was a very young child. There are some people who love sports just as much as I do, yet I can't stand them; I find them very judgmental and stuck-up, similar to the people you described. Yet I also know many sports fanatics who are just regular people, going about their day-to-day lives, just normal guys and gals who like to have a good time. The same goes for WoW players that I have encountered.
To be blunt, you come off sounding like a kid who has been picked on for wearing gaming/"nerdy" clothing, or someone who truly does enjoy the lifestyle that he has, but is always thinking "Okay, let's see who wants to make fun of me
this
time..." every time he puts on his shirt. If this is the case, I apologize for your previous bad experiences/misconceptions about "normal" people, but that does not make it okay for you to do the same back to them. An eye for an eye makes the world go blind.
Judge someone based on the individual they are, not what categories you
think
they fall into based on something as trivial as what they wear, the programs they watch, or who they spend their time with.

To be honest, I have a general distaste for sports due to how much emphasis (and money) is spent on sport entertainment when as a country our lifestyle and standard of living are ridiculously low, laughably so in some respects. So perhaps that's a biased PoV, but oh well. That's the beauty of opinions; like a--holes, we've all got one.

Rational and irrational are in the eye of the beholder, are they not?
To you it might seem perfectly rational; to me, it's idiotic, and indicative of a type of people who are that bland, dull, and insignificant to be perfectly content doing what everyone else is doing because it's the current 'in' thing. It just happens that most of them are just as happy to look down on anyone that doesn't go with the flow. Hence my distaste.
Yet I also know many sports fanatics who are just regular people, going about their day-to-day lives, just normal guys and gals who like to have a good time. The same goes for WoW players that I have encountered.
Those are possibly the type of folks who don't apply to my mostly hostile worldview, then. But probably not.

Every kid's been picked on, however I'm slightly past that point in my life, spent the majority of my late teens and early 20s in the Army, kid of my own now, all that family jazz. The views I've gained of the world, albeit somewhat jaded and pessimistic, are my own and not rooted from teen angst. I prefer to think of it as reality, but then even that is subjective, so I don't blame most folks for not getting it.

I used to. I've learned that almost all of the time, the impression you first get when you listen to someone speak for a few moments and study their facial expressions, is most often accurate. If you look for reasons to not dislike someone you'll find them easily enough, but I don't feel the need to look if they already meet the criteria of insignificance in my eyes.
But that's nothing to do with this thread, I'm just too OCD to leave something unanswered.
Cheers ^_^
EDIT:
Thing is, you're not exactly setting a good example for the "gamer" crowd that you mentioned.
I missed that the first time around; that's exactly the kind of thing I'd like to avoid doing. Setting examples is something you do when you raise your children to be strong, kind, and honorable people, not something you should have to do in order to justify why you do or do not like something as ultimately meaningless as entertainment. The need that the general public feels to measure x against y at all times, is tied right in to the same need to squash anything that's not part of the status quo, and is a particular pet peeve of mine.
I really could go on about this for weeks, tread carefully!

^ As could I. I'm much too tired to quote your entire post and provide counter-arguments for each and every point, although if I were in higher spirits and not so fatigued from all the work I've done today, I just might.
Don't get me wrong though, I respect your opinions, and yes, like you said, rational and irrational are all in the eyes of the beholder, which is why I'm sure you understand why I may feel the way I do about some of your statements.
I suppose a part of why I get worked up about this is because I've been on both sides of the spectrum. Up until a few years ago, I was a complete and total "nerd" by most people's definitions. I rarely went out with friends, I was always online playing games, I wore old clothes and didn't keep up with style, etc. I was a social outcast, to put it simply. Now, I'm leaning towards the other side of the spectrum; I go to school and usually go out to eat or hang out somewhere after school is over, I'm out with friends every weekend and often on weeknights as well, and I feel that I know a lot of people. I don't think I'm "popular" by any means, but "well-connected" is what I like to describe it as. I know people, people know me, we go out and have good times, all that jazz. I also keep up with fashion. I'm the type of guy who will spend $150+ on a pair of jeans. You may argue that I do it to stay trendy -- and that would be true, to a certain extent -- but once I began to educate myself on more expensive jeans and
why
they are more expensive, I've grown to see them as an investment, rather than an expenditure. The quality between a $150 pair of jeans is vastly superior to the $30 jeans I used to wear, and well worth the cost,
in my opinion.
Just an example.
With that said, I've still retained my "nerd" roots. I love World of Warcraft. I love gaming. The change in my social lifestyle has not affected my love for gaming at all, despite the fact that many of the people that I now associate myself with don't give a rat's ass about video games other than maybe a quick game of MW2 when they're at a friend's house or something, and would probably think that I am weird if I tell them that I have been a hardcore gamer since I was 10 years old and that for me to even pick up an Xbox 360 controller and try to play MW2 or Halo would feel unnatural, because I grew up playing games like CS and BF1942.
So, for me, it's really a touchy subject when people try to generalize one of the two groups. Like I said, I've been on both sides of the spectrum. It's easy to recognize and point out the extremes, such as you have done, but it's extremely difficult to try to differentiate things when the two meet in the middle, such as I have done.
I guess you can call me naive as well, because I always believe that there is more to someone than a simple first impression. I'm the type of person to try to break through and reach out to someone and find out who they really are, instead of making a judgment call based on what I've seen and heard at first glance. Sometimes it turns out well, and sometimes it doesn't, but it's a risk I like to take; you never know when you may be pleasantly surprised.
Anyway, good day to you, I need to get some sleep.

And guess what...it works the other way around. Most non-gamers have a distate for how much time and money is spent of gaming.
Rational and irrational are in the eye of the beholder, are they not?
Nope. You must not know what rational means.

I like Seinfeld. I don't go around wearing a Seinfeld shirt. There's a lot of things I like that I really don't want a t-shirt off. I don't need a t-shirt to express my opinion about things - I have my mouth for that.
Why does what you wear have to be an expression of something?
I don't wear a red shirt to express a love for red...I wear it because it looks nice/cool. Same reason I wear all my clothes, including my WoW shirts.

I don't disagree that most non-gamers probably feel the same way about me as I do about them; my point was, as I said, screw 'em, they don't matter to me anyway.
I'm perfectly aware of what rational and irrational mean; I'm curious as to why you don't seem to recognize that there are considerations making what is rational to one guy, not rational to the next guy. Otherwise we'd all like the same thing and wouldn't even be having this conversation, and you wouldn't have posted an incredibly long psychoanalysis of Garrosh Hellscream a while back, and I wouldn't get into arguments with people over why football is ridiculous.
Denkou: cheers ^_^ rest easy.

There is no universal law as to what rational behaviour or thought is; it's all based on the personality of the given man/woman. What is rational to you might not be rational to him. So he's completely correct when saying it's in the eyes of the beholder:P
