Because they didn't bother. It gets even worse when its a typo of a word you can literally read in the game they're obviously playing.

Honestly?
Many learned and/or professionally skilled people I've known, who took English as a second language, spell things more appropriately than more than half of the kids coming out of Middle- and High Schools these days. I weep for the future of the USA, as I increasingly see utter crap on billboards, magazine covers, and in newspaper articles. People are getting paid -- and probably better than I -- to write that crap. Some of what I see is barely on-par with what my six year-old is doing now.
I am sometimes a spelling/grammar Nazi, but I have my 8th Grade English Teacher, Mrs. Jons, (
der Rechtschreib Fuhrer!
) to thank for that. Mind you, I don't pick on people for the sake of their spelling. I tend to inwardly cringe, more than anything else. And, I am aware that I make typos and occasional grammatical mistakes as I hammer out my own replies from time to time. But, you would think people could get the word, "Rogue" correct, after seeing the word spelled correctly in so many places.
If you don't like that some people judge you (or anyone else) by your ability to spell, or to write a half-cohesive paragraph, then think about this:
in a forum, this is ALL they have from you. They don't get to speak to you, in person. They don't get to hear your voice. They have your words, and that's the only representation you (or anyone) have for yourself.
Just like in any other social situation, if you conduct yourself poorly, then expect people to have a lesser first impression. That's just Human nature. Argue about it, rage against it, or even live in denial of it, but you can't eliminate it.
Walrock
Warryur
Maeg
Shameman
Drooid (Like the froo-its of the Dee-vil)
Huntard
Preest
etc...
Rouge
is a type of reddish makeup. A
Rogue
is a butt-kickin' master of the quick kill. I doubt I'll ever play one, but I quickly learned to respect them in the battlegrounds. And I'm sure they generally don't appreciate their name being besmirched by the ignorant. ;-)

This. It's not about feeling superior, it's just very noticeable when someone isn't really trying. Non-native English speakers included. If they are playing this game in English then they have enough of a grasp to manage "rogue" instead of "rouge", especially when it's written on the character sheet they stare at every time they press C.
It'd be like me playing this game in, for example, Spanish. I don't know the language at all, but if someone told me my class was called a picaro I think could probably manage that, and not going around calling myself a piccolo, picayune, pikachu etc!

Aoccdrnig to rscheearch at Ebindurgh Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.
(Snopes states this is not really a confirmed thing, but it's interesting, nonetheless)
Still... Despite our brain's amazing ability to adapt and recognize a word which has been spelled incorrectly? Some people manage to mangle their English, to the point that much of what they say is still pretty much illegible.

To offer an argument about the stickies...it is very annoying when you have spent time writing up something to help other players and then seeing a question which is
directly answered by that thread
frequently. That is the main reason I tell people to look at the stickies, because their question has been answered prematurely by someone who did not have to help other players out.

That's fair enough. I don't mind people who say 'Look it up in the stickies, it's all in there'. That extra 5 seconds is better than seeing 'Stickies'. Like I said, if someone said that when I joined Wowhead I'd have responded with 'Wtf are those?'
To be fair; there is a thread right at the top of the page in most boards which say "Helpful threads -
Read before posting
!" Which is a quite clear indicator that your answer could already be in one of the threads.

I only care when the poster or responder just shows no care of spell checking, I wonder what they are thinking when they see all the red lines their words? With Firefox all you have to do is right click on a misspelled word and it will have the proper word there for you. And I also care when people just straight misspell some of the simplest words, like how tons of people spell Defense, defence. Thats a word you see all the time in WoW and people still cant get it right. Theres more but I don't wanna sound nit picky, hell I'm sure there's some mistakes in this post but is it unbearable to read? All in all taking a few seconds to error check your stuff can go a long way. I doubt I would ever criticize someone who isn't native to the english language on their spelling though, but if english is your first language then shame on you for being lazy.

Also most people who only say 'stickies', will at least link them. I find the class forums to be particularly annoying, personally. Without even scrolling down you can see 9 topics. Usually about 2-4 of those are the same damn question, just asked in different threads.
I don't think many of us actually care about bad spelling and grammar. We've all been using the internet long enough to know that everything's not being typed out perfectly all the time. A lot of it for me is laziness in the content.
- Has the person asked a question that was answered in the thread below his?
- Has that person bothered to read the aforementioned "Helpful threads - Read before posting!"?
- Has that person made an effort to make his post informative (so we can help as best we can) and legible, or has he just said "im fury warrior ad i need rotashon spec glyph gearz so help me find stuff cos i read stickies but i dunno i jst think arms is op and prot is like lololl 4 pvp so help me cos i only do about 2.5k dps kk ty"?
That's an extreme example, but I've seen more than a few threads that start like that. Yes, we understand the words he's using, but we don't actually know what he's asking. We can see he's fury specced, but he mentions arms and prot, plus PvP. What does he want? We have no idea.
Pile all that up and what you get is people who would like to help, but can't because of barriers put up by the person wanting our input. It just puts people off, and eventually they've seen one too many lazy posts and you get:
"Stickies"

I like how tons of people spell Defense, defence. Defense is the American spelling, defence is perfectly acceptable in England among other places.
