80 Priest (Karazhan)
80 Druid (Karazhan)
75 Warrior (Emerald Dream)
70 Paladin (Karazhan)
70 Paladin (Bloodscalp)
70 Shaman (Karazhan)
65 DK (Neputlon)
52 Druid (Bloodscalp)
46 Rogue (Emerald Dream)
42 Hunter (Karazhan)
32 Druid (Karazhan)
29 Rogue (Bloodscalp - old twink)
29 Priest (Bloodscalp)
26 Hunter (Sunstrider)
19 Hunter (Bloodscalp - old twink)
15 Lock (Karazhan - current alt :p)
& a few other random <10's scattered about.
Mainly rolled alts to play with people I met in other clans before WoW to have a run about with them! Also 10-39 BG's & Questing in Outlands are two of my favourite "areas" in WoW, so tend to get bored and play with something else after that!
Was thinking last week that instead of messing about with all those Alts & rerolling all the time, what it would be like if I just had one character over the last 3 years, can't imagine it :P
Can never have too many imo :D

I think more than 9 alts is too much, as then you will be leveling more than one character of each class for which there really is no good reason to do.

I think you should have as many alts as you have time to play them. I don't have a lot of time for WoW, so I only have my main: 80 BE hunter, a 58 BE Death Knight, and a 21 NE hunter.

80 Dwarf Hunter
80 NE Druid
80 Draenei Pally
80 Undead Rogue
80 Orc shaman
80 Undead DK
79 Gnome Warrior
72 Human Pallie
70 Human Priest.
It is very detrimental to me if I attempt to focus one one of them, I just cant do it and spend all my time hopping around without any of them in particular advancing very much. I wish very much that I had courage enough to Delete them and start over with only a single character and Bank Alt , but I am too chicken. If you suffer from any sort of ADD you might end up like this and it has caused me to quit the game about 6 times because I cant focus on one and get angry at myself.

I kinda have the same problem. I like the idea of having multiple alts so I can do different things if I get bored, but the problem is that I just keep switching between them and don't get anything good done. But I have actually completely started from scratch a few times.
But this time, I kept my bank alt but sold everything so I have a pretty good stash of gold for my starting character, and I'm working on only one horde and one alliance, so I can get them properly leveled.

The idea is to always play with rested experience.
The idea is to play the game while having the most fun for your money.
