Warning, massive wall of text ahead...
Having played the game for a number of years and having a few different classes I have heard many stupid things from many different levels and classes.
I began as a hunter (not a huntard pls note, I always laid a frost trap at the feet of the healer whenever possible) and while I have heard many strange ones this one is the best..
random nub: "wow, how'd you do that?"
me: "what?"
random nub: "run so fast, can i do it too?"
me: "ah you mean aspect of the cheetah? no it's a hunter thing"
random nub: "you sure?"
like I don't know my own class...
I then levelled a warlock, got bored and moved onto priest. At this point I gained an appreciation for how hard healers have it.
Like many priests I levelled as shadow.
On one occasion I was asked to heal an SM lib run, I was around lvl 30ish so had mind flay but not much else in the tree that would distinguish me as shadow.
We were in the first courtyard (45 lock, 50 lock, 34 shaman, me, and a mage)
Shaman: "OMG he's shadow! He has mind flay, we need a healer!"
Me: "Shadow priests can heal too"
50 lock: "It'll be fine m8..heals seem fine to me"
So we continue.
At the end of the 1st corridor on the way to Dean the shammy pulls 3 packs and the locks have to work overtime to keep us from wiping. I spam healing on the locks sure in the knowledge that the shammy has enough mana to cast a heal or 2 on himself.
As the shaman reaches 50% i get the folowing:
Shaman: "heal me!"
me: "I'm healing the locks"
Shaman: "heal me now!"
Me:"heal yourself"
Shaman:"I'm dps, heal me I'm dying!"
Me:"heal yourself you have mana"
Shaman:"I'm DPS!"
I manage to keep the squishies up and throw a renew on the shammy.
Afterwards the shammy begins to gripe about my bad healing.
I patiently point out that he is a hybrid and has healing spells too. He should heal himself, and let the high levels do the pulling.
He QQ's some more so finally I snap
Shaman:" you're a priest just heal us all, next time i ask for healing heal me!"
Me:"If you ask me for healing or tell me to how do my job again then I won't heal you for the rest of the instance. Stop pulling and do YOUR job"
50 lock:"pwned"
More recently I came across an interesting phenomenon in regular MgT.
I ran with a tank I trust and some random lock, mage and rogue. We were on the priestsess boss when we wiped. I had already asked the lock 4 times for a soulstone but received no response (or soulstone). I had also suggested a soulwell but received no response.
On our Corpse run I whispered him...
Me:"dude, you need to put a soulstone on me and do a soulwell"
Lock:"soulwell?"
Me:"ye, and a soulstone on me"
Lock:"erm..."
Me:"?"
Lock:"What's a soul well?"
Me:"it gives out HP stones"
So the lock gives me an hp stone...
Me:"if you use a soulwell it'll only cost you 1 shard"
Lock:"I don't have the spell"
Me:"what?"
Lock:"I don't have it"
I was a little shocked and told him it was a trainer spell for lvl 68.
Lock:"i don't have that spell"
can anyone say ebay?
However the all amazing top award goes to this guy:
Random whisper from lock in LFG
Lock:"r u holy?"
Me:"yes"
lock:"can you heal arcatraz normal for us?"
Me:"ofc, but i'll need a summon"
<silence>
Me:"you still want me to heal m8?"
Lock:"can you tank?"
Me:"I'm a priest!"
Lock:"oh nvm don't need you, tank back now."
Me:"I'm a priest, YOU asked ME if I could heal you!"
Lock:"can you heal?"
Me:"yes but I need a summon"
Lock:"group full now m8..sorry"
At this point I just plain gave up.
P.S. I tend to call retarded pala's failadins or (if they're prot) protards

Ok Oscar, you are right (but it was over 8k hp unbuffed, while maintaining over 1800 heal and 200mp5 i5sr).
Don't you just love it when a holy pala tells a priest how to gear?
I am in Bone Wastes and get whispered by a priest 5 levels higher than me " want to heal BF?" I reply that I am Shadow spec., they reply: "So do you want to heal BF then?".
I armory them, their +healing is 3x mine and they are holy spec. I then get whispered again 5 minutes later "we really need a healer, are you sure you don't want to come? Free exp, just heal). I tell them they have 3x my +healing and are holy. They replied " I am dps, ever hear of lolsmite?".
/facepalm

Holy dps FT..er...

Lål.
I love failed class justifications.
Got a recent app to my guild from a hunter with +12spell dmg (TBC) enchant on ring.
I may be wrong, but I thought the +spell dmg effect was removed for hunters pre BC....
The classic "I need it for my mend pet set" justification is always an amusing one too (provided it's not something I need ofc).
A frustrating enhance shammy needing on the polearm from RFK then asking if his class could use polearms afterwards...
...or the hunter who insisted that "...hunters CAN use maces! OMFG u noob don't u kno anything?"
/sigh

I think we established that
"The stupidest thing said to you was go get 10k HP pre Hyjal"
is almost possible (buffed) while still maintaining close to the best pve items available before this point. If you wanted to actually get to 10k, you might have to gem some stamina (which yes, would be a nerf).
Technically, I can't achieve 10k HP in Sunwell without gimping my healing and regen - but noone would argue that the few stat points are worth dying on the first set of trash.

So it went something like this...I get into a group and the tank asks me what spec I am and I say that I'm shadow, he says ok but then the mage says;
"im fine with it, but for future references try remember people only want priests to heal"

Why is it that tanks are always cool with it, but DPS always has something to say if you're healing shadow spec? Ill never understand that.
I guess it's because they fear they will suffer as it requires a tiny bit more tank focus for shadow priests to heal (in my experience). In all honesty though, if the DPS are taking damage then they should learn not to pull agro!

Ah, if only WoW were so simple!
Sadly every nab and his vanity pet has an opinion about every class and all things WoW.
As a result they will never shut up and will always QQ even when you do everything you can to keep things going smoothly.
There will always be someone who has played a priest once, or has a priest alt, or who's main is a priest, who will try to tell you how to play the game. Your challenging task is to filter out the BS and gather what you can from your own experiences. They may be right, but noone likes to be told how to play a game they enjoy.
So long as they don't die it shouldn't be a problem.
I have had DPS and a tank who QQd at the start that I was shadow and at the end wanted to add me for great healing.
I get really frustrated by the "what's your +heal?" question. There are plenty of nabs out there who have been carried through kara pugs enough times to get good badge gear, but have no concept of how to heal.
It's not all about +heal (as we all know here), and trying to convince some heroic tank that 1800 +heal is fine, and just because he's never gone anywhere with any class with less than 2k +heal doesn't mean he'll wipe on the first pull, can be really irritating!

You guys misunderstood me, I should've typed the rest of the conversation. I was DPS'ing in that group and the mage was saying that priests shouldn't be anything but healers.

Ahhhhh.
Well in that case the mage should have shut the hell up and enjoyed the mana regen you provided. Spriests are a great utlilty that all casters should appreciate IMHO.
Ofc if there had been a shadow-destro or affli lock you would have heard no QQ at all. Spriest debuffs ftw!
@priesttank: Wall of text crits my eyes!
Please try to use the return key occasionally. It makes it much easier to read what you have written.

I've come up with some standard wording for my priest to help brief the meat shields. Let me know what you think:
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome aboard this PUG to Shadow Labs. My name is Zandramas and I’ll be your Priest for the evening. If I could direct your attention to the screens in front of you while I run through a few essential procedures that could save your virtual life, that would be appreciated.
In the event of a pull you may notice a slight reduction in the amount of health you have. This is perfectly normal and to be expected – do not be alarmed. Rest assured that if I think you need healing, I will heal you irrespective of whether or not you “cry out for healing”. Curiously, some folks have commented that the amount of healing received appears to be inversely proportionate to the amount times an individual “cries out for healing”. I resemble that comment, I really do.
If however you are concerned there are some small steps you can take to ensure the best possible outcome – i.e: you don’t die. Firstly you should look to your front, sides and rear and check that you’ve not run around a corner. Contrary to popular belief, healing spells are “Line of Sight” and do not, for the most part, work around corners or through walls.
Secondly, check that you’ve not moved a significant distance from the group. Contrary to common misconception, healing spells do not have unlimited range.
Thirdly - check – did you recently (in the last 5 seconds) use Feign death, vanish, pally bubble or any other ability that dumps your aggro? If you did and that aggro fell onto the healer (me) you’d better heal yourself and get used to the idea.
Finally, check the health bar of the Priest nearest you – is it falling? You may be surprised to learn that in the event of being hit, a Priest is likely to keep themselves alive ahead of you – yes, surprising isn’t it!
If, having followed these procedures your health drops and you die, don’t panic. It’s almost certain that you will be resurrected shortly. On returning to life you may feel a little dizy and ill at ease – please, take 10 seconds of breathing deeply before venting your feelings – Priest are people too!
In all seriousness, healing isn’t as easy as it sounds – if it were, you’d be a healer right? Sometimes Priests have to make unpalatable decisions about who should live and who should die. It may help if you bear in mind the following list in terms of healing priority:
1. The Tank
2. Me
3. You
4. Your pet
Although to be honest, the order of 3 and 4 are up for debate
If, having discussed this list, you still feel aggrieved there are a number of courses of action available to you
1. Throw abuse at the Priest. Not recommended – remember, a Heal block is only a right click away!
2. Whinge. Sure, go ahead, knock yourself out.
3. Complain to the team leader and ask for the priest to be booted. Remember, it took an hour of spamming LFG to find me, but only 30 seconds to find you (unless you’re a tank, but if you’re a tank you wont be complaining since you’re used to death)
Finally, I’d like to say on record that I take healing seriously and have never indulged in healing Russian roulette with party members. A game in which I see how low your health can go and still be healed is not condonable under any circumstances. Ok, there was this one time, but really that was a joke.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the next 2 hours safe in the knowledge that if you do your job, I’ll do mine.
I love this and I know it was written a long time ago....but I just had to comment :-D
