He didn't say it was just a game. He said it was just a game plot point -- if you want it reordered, just a point related to the game's plot.
It would have been better without the quote but it was mentioned once or twice above and that comment was fairly similar, so I put it in there.

Bringing religion into a non-religious videogame. FTW.

Heh, religion has been ret-conned. Play WC1 - "For God!"
Play WC2 and beyond: "God" turns to Light. ;)

At the end of the day, Christianity has one principle at its core - that Christ died to save us from our sins.
The Church of the Holy Light has none of that.
The followers of the Holy Light do not worship any gods. Instead, it is a philosophy, training its followers to seek perfection within themselves. It is very much an active practice of virtue rather than a passive worship. Those who follow it closely gain spiritual awareness and guidance, allowing them to lead others.
If anything, it's closer to Tai Chi than anything else. Or possibly Falun Gong. Whee, another reason for China to ban WoW!

The Light is definitely based off of Christianity, but it is
not
Christianity. The implications are there. The churches and such look like Christian cathedrals/churches, the clothes that they wear are similar.
Just because Christianity is based off of that Christ died to save us from our sins, and the Light has none of that, doesn't mean they're not similar.

To be fair, lot of valid idea's on priest religions.
Trolls worship the zoas, which is kinda like the egyptian beliefs of animal gods.
Undead worship the cult of the shadow, or a similar name.
Orcs are pantheists, hence shamanism being big with the, the belief that the earth has a spirits and different aspects, hence fire water earth and air being elements.
Gnomes worship machines.
Humans and dwarves believe in christianity i'd presume, hence why they have more conventional chapel area's.
Bloodelves probably worship mana, being a final fantasy lifestream type dealio.
God knows what spacegoats believe in.
