...And Bolvar took the blow, though it killed him, allowing the Lich King's body to be sheared through by the golden edge of the Ashbringer. The Lich King fell, and Tirion Fordring took up his mantle. Mograine protested, willing to take the burden upon himself instead, to atone for his sins. But he had been corrupted once, and it would be unwise for him to have the dark seed again planted in his soil. Just as his father predicted, the Ashbringer was returned unto him.
Then the very fabric of the cosmos was torn, as Deathwing the Destroyer, the fallen Aspect, broke the boundaries between Azeroth and the Elemental plains. The earth was ravaged as it had been only once before, and the war of mortals and elements began. This event was soon known as the Cataclysm. Lives were claimed by the great void, as Deathwing, Neptulon, Al'Akir and Ragnaros ravaged the world. Soon these forces were to defeated, and two years have passed... Though the world is hardly peaceful.
Humans
:
Varian Wyrnn remains king of Stormwind. Without a common enemy, he turns upon the Horde with vicious intent. He launches offensive after offensive against Orc, and Tauren alike. If it was on the Horde, it should be killed. He rarely ever left his throne, plotting battle after battle. Some say he was obsessed. Some say that something had driven him insane... Soon, the violence was not just subject to the Horde. He became so obsessed, that anyone who opposed this violence within the Alliance as well was captured and put to death. It became a genocidal dictatorship. He quickly silenced anyone who would oppose him, quietly of course, even if it included his closest friends. Jaina Proudmoore of Theramore was one of these, who were assassinated. He blamed her death on the Horde. He quickly took power of all the human kingdoms, and waged more war.
However, some see through his plots, and have broken off from the Alliance because of it. This force was leaderless. However, soon it merged with other humans who have been betrayed by their own people in the past. The Defias Brotherhood allied with the group, naming themselves The Defias Revolution. Indeed, Edwin Vancleef seems to be harder to catch than you imagine, and leads this group against the humans.
Dwarves
:
With the foretold coming of Ragnaros in the Cataclysm, the Dark Iron Dwarves were out in full force, aiding there patron deity The Wildhammer Shamans knew the power of this Elemental, and thought it would be wise to ally with them in case they won what was soon known as the War of the Burning Hammers by the Dwarves. They quickly swarmed upon the Bronzebeard, and besieged them. Unknown to them that Ragnaros had been defeated, the Dwarves of Ironforge broke away from the Alliance, unwilling to aid Varian in his genocidal crusade as he was to aiding them against the Molten Hammer clan, the new clans name. There are still pockets of resistance, though they have ultimately taken over the Bronzebeard. When the Shamans told them of Ragnaros' defeat they mourned, but they did not give up their rule.
While there is no particular group affiliated with retaking Ironforge, there are a few here and there who would fight back.
Night Elves
:
The Elven community once again leaped to it's feet when the destruction of the World Tree was imminent. Malfurion was slain by Ragnaros, and there was much grieving. Tyrande herself was so hurt that she forsook Elune for letting this happen to her husband, and took a silent vigil. She was unmovable, and anyone who tried to help her was forced back. She sat atop Teldrassil until she starved to death. That left the Night Elves leaderless, with no Priest of Elune. In her stead, Maiev Shadowsong claimed the throne of High Priestess by right, as Elune's right hand. Being both a Priest and a Warden, she took charge of both Sentinels and Priests. It appears that the huntress had more to hunt indeed. She was enraged at the Blood Elves for when Kael'Thas had assisted Illidan, as well as the Naga (Who the Night Elves had deep connections with, dating over ten thousand years). And so she waged war against the two races. On top of that, she ordered that all users of Fel Energies be put to death, and employed teams of Sentinels to hunt and destroy those who would, no matter what purpose they were used for. She banished all Arcanists from the Kal’Dorei once again, though did not put them to death as she did Warlocks and Demon Hunters.
There are not many who oppose the Night Elves' causes, except for those who are or are friends with the persecuted. The various Demon Hunters of the Kal'Dorei are especially against this, because they use fel energies for good purposes.
Gnomes
:
When the Dwarves left the Alliance, the Gnomes had no choice but to do the same. As soon as the Molten Hammer clan invaded Ironforge, the Gnomes were immediately viewed as inferior and forced to leave. They had no home and no shelter. The Goblins viewed them as possible business competitors, and set about destroying them. The Gnomes were massacred, and no more than ten percent of the race remains. This was a devastating blow to the Gnomes, who had already lost much in the taking of Gnomeregan. They are now a sad and defeated people, who roam the wilds in search of a permanent home, in groups or alone.
Draenei
:
The Draenei have been worshipers of the Light since the dawn of the race, and continue to do so. However, they continue to get more and more extreme. Velen, seeing as how the demonic energies have corrupted his closest friends and most of his entire race in the past, as well as the fact that demon corrupted Orcs betrayed and wreaked havoc among his uncorrupted friends, joined Maiev in her hunt of all that is demonic. They made the group Naa'rael, or the Army of Light, to prepare for the final destruction of the Burning Legion. They called upon all of the Light worshiping creatures of Azeroth to join them. Many did not join, thinking that it is not time for what the Naaru predicted, and that it will come in a time of peace so that all may fight the same enemy.
There are no Draenei mutually opposed to the Naa'rael's cause, they all know of the burning Legion. However, few do not believe that it is right to kill all beings simply because they use evil energies, that one can only be classified as evil if there goal is evil.
Worgen
:
The people of Gilneas were always in conflict with the humans of Stormwind, and the new crusades against the Orcs will cause the bonfires of hatred to reignite. While politically under the control of Varian Wrynn, they are the most rebellious of the cities under his control. Genn Greymane still lives, though he is incredibly resentful of Varian, and wishes to once again break away when he has the chance.
The resistance among the Gilneans is incredible. Genn Greymane himself has started a rogue group under the table, hidden from Varian that is attempting to assassinate high-ranking officials in Greymane and such until the city can eventually be retaken.
Orcs
Thrall left to battle Ragnaros, leaving Garrosh in his place, and died much like Grom did, delivering a final slaying blow to the elemental. Garrosh started the oppression of races other than Orcs and Tauren as soon as Thrall left. When he died it got truly terrible. He created a council to help him rule, or so he said. He took the wisest members of the Horde and made the Circle of Wisdom. Later he called them to a secretive location for a meeting, where they were assassinated by the Kor’Kron. He blames it on the Alliance and increases the war effort, solidifying himself as Warchief. He slowly replaced the circle with trusted people who he knew would not challenge him. Including, the Burning Blade. And thus there demonic powers have allied with the Horde.
However it seems that not all the circle members were killed, as a few now lead the Urd’Kroth, or ‘Autumn’s Blade’. They named themselves this because autumn is the time when corrupt leaves fall off to make room for new pure ones. Lead by the presumed dead Varok Saurfang, they have made a base in a Barrens cave, and disguise themselves as Orcs loyal to Garrosh while they plot assassinations against members against the new Circle.
Tauren
:
Cairne and Baine Bloodhoof were among those who were murdered in the betrayal of Garrosh. However, they were quickly replaced. Magatha Grimtotem quickly seized power of the Tauren tribes, and became Garrosh’s second in command in the new Wisdom Circle. She tried to solidify their power by spreading lies, with no one to say otherwise.
There are a about as many Taurens against this rule as there are Orcs, however they have joined the Urd’Kroth under Saurfang.
Trolls
More than ten thousand year ago, the Zandali ruled the earth. Soon the Zandali split into the twin empires, Amani and Gurubashi, who fought the Aquir for land. However, with the rise of the Kal’Dorei, or Night Elves, there empires were shattered. Now, after the Horde had oppressed them, they left. It was soon found that the Troll tribes have grouped to retake Azeroth for themselves, seeing as all of it’s corruption happened since their rule. They are recreating themselves in Stranglethorn, where they will expand outwards. They are naming this empire the Amanrubashi.
There are many Trolls who disagree with this, however it does not compare to the thousands upon thousands that are making up this empire. A few help their old Horde friends in the Urd’Kroth.
Forsaken
As soon as they saw that they were going to be lesser members of the Horde, they left, feeling no obligation to stay as they came only for their own means. The faction was again spit. Many joined the New Lich King in his Crusade, while others have joined the Ashen Verdict inn resistance to this army.
Blood Elves
After the first oppression, the Blood Elves did not want to believe it. However the situation became more and more persistent, and could no longer be ignored. The Blood Elves separated from the Horde. An unknown group or individual assassinated Lor’Themar. In his place a minor Elf slowly rose to power. His name was Vas’thalin. He preached that the Blood Elves were superior to the other races of Azeroth, and that they have the right to use any powers available to them. They again made a pact with the Legion. Kael’thas was again worshiped as a hero. The Sin’Dorei used powerful Fel magics to try and seize control of the world that they thought was rightfully theirs, and all other races becoming second-class citizens.
There are many who oppose this thought, and have joined the group called the “Belore ay Kal hin Yshar” or “The Sun and the Moon Shine on All”. This is a group that is solely composed of exiles of the Night Elves and rebellious Blood Elves who are opposed to the thought that one people is greater than another.
Shortended to Ysharin, or Shiners.
Goblins
The Goblins experienced war as a race for the first time. On the unstably afflicted minds of these artificially intelligent creatures, it had disastrous effects. They became completely hardened to the morals and their only goal was wealth… At any cost. Indeed, when the Gnomes where removed from Ironforge, the Goblins saw them as possible business competitors and brought shredders to wipe them out.
Being that the transformation was a side effect of the magic that made them intelligent from the ore they mined, every Goblin that has seen combat thinks as they do.
Other Factions
:
Earth’s Healers
:
This is the merged group of the Cenarion Circle, devastated by the loss of Malfurion Sotrmrage, and the Earthen Ring, devastated by the loss of Thrall, even though he was not affiliated with them. They merged to create a group dedicated to healing the wounds of Azeroth that were caused by the Cataclysm.
The New Scourge – The Great Purge
Tirion Fordring looked down upon the world, sitting high atop the Frozen Throne in Icecrown Citadel. He was the new Lich King. He saw them war, and knew that the world was doomed. The only way true peace could be attained was by a unifying force brought down upon the world. The Lich King gave a rare smile as he realized that, not only did he know the one such force, but he had perfect control over it. He was the only one who could save this world from war. And that force was… Death. The Undead once again crawled forth from their tombs, to bring the world together once more.
The Ashen Verdict
Led by Darion Mograine, this is the group of all the Undead who did not agree with the Lich King, and had the will to stop it. It is composed of the Ebon Blade and the Forsaken who did not join the Lich King. It has also again included the Argent Dawn, or those not in the Naa’rael.

Jorgen Shadowtread
New Scourge
Location: Northrend
Once a high priest of the Holy Light, it abandoned him in undeath and Jorgen turned to the shadow. He is a strong believer of peace of any cost, and does not see Undeath as a curse. So when the new Lich King offered them hope, he joined the great purge of life.

Character:
Funden the Dawnbringer.
Location: The Barrens
A paladin of large skill, he fights against the Humans of Stormwind as leader of the Athaer'miyaen, or "Chosen by Light." Their secondary goal besides destroying any offensive by Stormwind and the unholy races is to reclaim Dun Morogh. They are neutral to the Urd'Kroth who wish to kill the Council.
Funden stalked along the paths of the Barrens, carefully looking for any Stormwind soldiers. Their zealotry was rivaled by only the Scarlet Crusade...

((Funden isn't necessarily part of Ironforge remnants anymore. He is kinda like the Scarlet Crusade, yet instead of fighting Scourge they battle Stormwind. Funden had been very vocal in his dislike of Varian during the War in Northrend, and when he began large offensives on the Horde, who Funden doesn't view as enemies, it kinda pushed him. Now he leads a crusade against Stormwind.
The Athaer'miyaen are a remnant of the Silver Hand, all veterans of the Battles in Plaguelands. During the War against the Lich King Funden gathered osme of these and made an elite team, one of the few to penetrate Icecrown Citadel and survive. Now he leads them against any of the "unholy" which are all the ones mentioned in my post
EDIT
: Whoops never said who the unholy ones are. Its the New Scourge, Forsaken, Blood Elves, and Trolls. Except for Stormwind. That is a personal Crusade, but the members of his team have been with him so long that they will go and do anything he says. Now all of them take his views on Stormwind, and believe the only remaining Pure societies are the Urd'Kroth, remnants of Ironforge, Draenei, Gnomes, and Tauren.))

((Isn't Earth's Healers a bit of a strange name for an organization dedicated to healing Azeroth?))
((Yes, but so is Earthen Ring by that logic. Or the Earthmother. To be honest it was a fallacy of my creativity, so I gave it something stupid. If you think of something better. Oh, Funden, could your guy be a sect of the Naa'rael (look at Draenie post)? It sounds like his kind of thing.))

((Quick question: Did Garrosh take the mantle of Warchief by force, or was it bestowed upon him by Thrall?))
((It was kind of Adolf Hitler type. He was given the mantle temporarily by Thrall, but Thrall was killed by Ragnaros so he became Warchief. After that, he went against the Warchiefs ideals, and became very corrupt. You can take all this to the Q&A thread.))

Character:
Nakresh Ogrefist
Location: The Barrens
Nakresh sighed as he looked over the land. This was not how it should be. They had been so close to peace. This was not as Thrall had intended. Not as Doomhammer had intended.
But he was bound to the Horde by his oath. He had sworn his life to the Horde, as long as the Warchief still called him to service. His mate had agreed, and they were now both stationed in the newly fortified town of Crossroads. They had made sure that their daughter was safe--at least as safe as possible in this terrible new world--at Thunder Bluff, and had decided to continue their service to the Kor'kron.
Nakresh hoped to be able to return to his daughter soon, as she and his mate were the few things he still found lovely in the world.

There would be more nearby...
Funden thought, and let the soldier continue, tailing him closely.

Jorgen Shadowtread
Location: Borean Tundra
Jorgen awaits for a vessel on the docks. He is going to preach the coming of this purge, as well as other members of the Cult of the Damned. He remembered how these people had once been praying for death only for itself. Now they had a just cause. All of the purged have free will, and war shall become meaningless. This is where the races realize they are all brothers...

Characters: Shendra and Kelnarie of Telredor
Class: Shen is a Shaman, Kel is a Paladin(Vindicator)
Race/Gender: Draenei Females
Location: Exodar, Azuremyst Isle
Sisters of the Draenei Vindicator Aelnon, later the Death Knight Doomwhisper; Shendra the youngest and Kelnarie the middle resemble their older sister having the same dusky skin colour, silver hair, though both younger girls have violet eyes to their older sister's gold. Doomwhisper perished during the Battle for Icecrown, and the sisters mourned her death before joining with the Alliance to fight back the hordes of the Destroyer after the Cataclysm occurred. Currently both members of the Naa'rael, and are being sent off on a scouting mission into Kalimdor and possibly the Eastern Kingdoms.
"Will you hurry up?" Kelnarie asked, placing her helm on her head and swinging up into the saddle of her talbuk, the beast a pure white to match her armour. She shifted a little to better settle the greathammer on her back; a hammer done in the same shape as her sister's. "Coming Kel." Shendra called, jogging towards her and pulling herself onto the back of her own talbuk, sliding her axes into the saddle sheaths and looked over at her. "Ready to move out whenever you are Vindicator!" She said with a grin, saluting her sister who sighed, and headed off, Shen still chuckling as she followed.

Nervaun Grimtotem
Tauren
Hunter
Description; Nervaun was raised as a Grimtotem. His clan expected him to be their future general, and he was taught in the Warlock Magics. However, while he still retained some Shadow Spells, Nervaun chose to become a Hunter. His family did not understand his affinity for beasts and exiled him. He was eventually allowed to return, but in the lower classes rather then an important military leader.
He despised his clan's dark culture and secretly vowed to oppose them. Now, with the Grimtotems as the leaders of the Tauren, he strives to get to Magatha and assassinate her. He has a very dark fur and large, forward-pointing horns. His Grimtotem heritage grants him a sort of diplomatic immunity, as he is respected by Horde members wherever he travels.
He uses this to slwoly regain the trust and rspect of his own family to extract his revenge.
His pet is a massive, black Devilsaur named Gravejaw. It also serves as his mount.
Nervaun rode Gravejaw into the Crossroads, the locals looking up to him as they saw him approaching. '
Just place and activate the bomb and get out
', he tought to himself. He dismounted the large beast and said soomething to him. 'Gravejaw, fetch a cat for yourself, boy'.
The monstrous being ran off into the Barrens, distracting the guards and civilians of the Horde town. Nervaun went into the inn and looked around. There was no-one there but the innkeeper. '
Perfect
'
He grabbed bag and pulled out a bottle. He said to the innkeeper; 'This is a gift from the Grimtotem Clan for your loyalty. We would feel greatly honored if you could give your opinion about the liquid'. The man accepted, as he was in no position to refuse an offer from the great Grimtotem.
He drunk it and pondered the effect. 'It tastes a bit-'. The Tauren innkeeper fell dwon unconcious. Nervaun began to set his plans into motion.
