Of course it's true, you'll find the elite right next to the Starbucks located in SFK. I thought everyone knew about this?
If you can't dazzle 'em with brilliance, ...

I find it funny that you actually believed the riding skill could be taught in SFK. At level 40. Maybe Scarlet Monastery... But SFK? It's not like the horsies are gonna talk to you.

But at level forty (40) a
paladin
obtains a
Warhorse
(trainable spell:
Summon Warhorse
).
Those are the free mounts in game I know of. Any questions feel free to ask. =].
The "Summon Warhorse" spell costs me about 90s, so it isn't technically free. : )
(Ok, I'll stop gloating now. The Epic Mount quest coming up more than makes up for the ease of obtaining the basic Paladin mount.)

technically none of those are "free"
You're paying a minimum of $3.50 for the wowtcg ones, and it's something like 90 silver to train the class ones :P
Significantly cheaper? yes. Free? no.

These are the free mounts I know of.
From the
World of Warcraft Trading Card Game
you can obtain
Riding Turtle
, which is a
mount
, which is a turtle. However with the
Riding Turtle
your current walking speed isn't any faster.
But at level forty (40) a
paladin
obtains a
Warhorse
(trainable spell:
Summon Warhorse
). A
warlock
at level forty (40) will recieve a
Felsteed
(trainable spell:
Summon Felsteed
). Along with both of the
paladin's
and
warlock's
mounts
they both will get
Apprentice Riding
free of cost.
At level sixty-eight (68) a
druid
can buy
Flight Form
, which is a new
druid
form
and trainable spell. This allows the
druid
to fly. Also with
Flight Form
the
druid
receives
Expert Riding
free of cost.
Those are the free mounts in game I know of. Any questions feel free to ask. =].
How much time did it take to write all that with all the links? Oo

Go grab your friend by the balls and make him give you his account password and log on and delete his character. He's a d00sh.

Better then paying 110 gold for training and your mount? ;)
Yes, much better. The Epic Mount questline more than makes up for it; at least 350g, plus a worldwide scavenger hunt for some rare items, some of which I'll end up buying anyway, and a bunch of nasty bosses to kill.
The 90s basic mount is the tradeoff we get for having no ranged attacks. : )
