you can, sadly. i left the LFG channel when i first started and cant figure out for the life of me how to get it back.
The LookingForGroup channel was changed a few patches back. Not sure how long ago you are talking. Before the change, LFG was global, then only in cities.
The way it is now you are only in that channel if you open the LFG tool (pos imo) and enter a dungeon/group quest etc to search for a group.
This is correct, but it's also possible to leave the LFG channel after you have the LFG tool running.
To get it back open up the lfg tool and then type /join LookingForGroup
:P

Hmm I didn't know you could leave the new LFG channel. I don't think joining that channel outside of the tool is the same though. Have to test it sometime.

It's not, but you can indeed leave it. I couldn't stand having it taking up a hidden chat channel (you know, it went. 1. general, 2. trade 3. localdefense, 5. my custom channels) If you open the LFG tool and leave the channel it frees up a channel slot :P

No I'm not, it just got turned back on... You try having 9 channels prior to the introduction to the tool, and having 5 of them suddenly being off by one number. It's a rather jarring change if you've been in the same 5 custom channels for close to 2 years :P

you can only see this if your looking for a group using the lfg tool wow provides. once in there, u can type /leave (number of channel) (e.g. /leave 4).
To join again type /join lookingforgroup
its with, or without space, cant remember.
