If you OOM and it's not one of the ICC heorics, it's because you're terrible. Your tank is probably playing under the assumption that you're marginally competent.
I never look at my healer's mana, as there is no reason to.
Hardly.
I'm horrendously overgeared for heroics and rarely dip below 98% mana on my shaman. I can just leave a HS totem and earth shield up and read a book if I wish.
I've had more than a few hc HoL runs (only seems to happen there) where a tank thought it would be ok to treat each and every trash pack between bosses as a single pack. Not a continuous chainpull, that's fine, but a single pack.
All-melee group, tank pulls the first 12 mobs before Bjarngrim, knockbacks pulling in another 1-3 mobs, with the boss incoming and everyone having the arc weld debuff and running around like idiots the whole time. Boss lands on the group with half the mobs still up and everyone's now standing in the whirlwind while still being welded and knocked back.
Or, heading into the room after Ionar and the tank decides groups including 3+ vanguards and 5+ runeshapers, plus mobs with sleep effects (tremor removes it, yes, but it still interrupts my healing) in an all-melee party are the best idea ever.
The fact that I manage to keep everyone alive through asshat behaviour such as this means I'm a terrible healer because it uses mana? You, sir, are a tool.
Also:
Not always true, I bet a few others have ported in only to have the tank run off before we spec swap.
More than a few times, my friend. Add to that tanks who have run off before I've actually zoned in.

You kept them alive, thus you were not OOM.
Thank you for proving my point.

You know, it's possible to go OOM
as combat ends
.
Are you even trying to be logical with this throwaway account, Pess?
If the tank pulled the entire hallway and the boss, it's unlikely that he's going to stop after it's dead.
Given that the story didn't end with "and we wiped horribly", it is safe to assume that he was not OOM.

I had only two bad experiences as a healer. One with a 40k pally in OK who would consistently get whacked to the red (like under 10k) very quickly in H.OK. Now I never had this problem before, what in the hell in the early trash packs (before first) boss in H.OK can do that much damage? I was spam casting on him a few times to keep him up.
y halo thar
@Sinespe, I think ippon is talking about OOM, as in, completely out of mana.
@Ippon, shut up. You don't have to be completely OOM, at 0 mana, to sit and drink. When people say they are OOM, they usually mean they are very low and need to drink. But I agree with the above posts, if you're going to make arugments, make GOOD arguments at least, instead of just spouting out garbage.

My argument is that if you have to drink in a non ICC heroic, you're bad. I stand by that.

Do some people think that posts always need to be redone? I have a decent tolerance about greater than average and my patience regeneration is okay, but after a poster posts a thread that's already been done 3-4 times before and im giving the same logic to you guys again and again why WHY WHY do you just run off to the next post before you check to see if anyone has done it before? You only need about 10 secs to search and post in an appropriate thread! anyone else have this problem?

As a tank, I always set the healer as my focus, if not only to watch their mana pool and keep an eye out for any drinking buffs.
Agreed. I like to make sure the mana bar is above 50% before I pull the next group. If it is, even if the healer is still drinking, I keep pulling. I also make sure the group knows what I'm doing and let everyone know that if anyone needs me to slow down, they just have to shout out.
We all work together, no one complains and we get through without any deaths.
One thing that drives me nuts, as a tank, is when I notice the healers mana is low, so I stop and wait. The healer runs up, stands beside me and does.... nothing.... I have to say "Mana up" or something to that effect. What do you think I'm waiting for? Then I get the "go ahead, I'm good".... at 15-20% mana? Don't blame me for the wipe!
Seriously though... there are a ton of poor and impatient players of ALL classes out there. If they're being retards, don't stay in the group. I've left TONS of them... LOL

Your argument is void of anything except assertion.
Fixed.

When Tanking I: Tell the healer that if he wants mana he better say so! That being said if he calls for mana he can take as long has he wants;)
When Healing I: Call for mana after trash only if below 50% and have already used all my mana regen options (pot, trink, totam, ect)
When DPS I:
I don't realy care... Y, think of the run as a trip in the car... the tank pushes the gas, the healer pushes the brake. The DPS are the wheels, wheels don't tell the driver how fast to spin them
!
This. Times 1000. Although I usually call for mana at < 25%.
Edit: I really like the analogy for the dps part. =D
