If I have the mana, and normally I do, I will heal the pet. As far as I'm concerned they're valuable; any damage done helps in the long run! I also consider this a bit of courtesy--we're a team here after all.
Obviously the tank is top priority followed by any dps that need it--no questions about that. If we have alot of adds, I try and keep everyone up, but in the end it comes down to priority and mana (currently lvl. 36.)
What I will not heal is someone who life taps 1-2 seconds before the fight, down to 5% health and are within melee range of the mob. My concern is the tank; if you do that to any healer do it in a decent amount of time that allows the healer not to go 'wth!' otherwise the pet might be put before you in healing priority. And let's be honest, if you are in melee range when this is done, it IS easier to resurrect you than save your hide...

That said, speaking as a healer, if you're a hunter, a warlock, or a DK, you can heal your own g-dd-mn pet.
My main is a resto druid, but i also have an 80 lock and unholy DK so this whole discussion is fun for me.
As a healer, I'll throw a Rejuvenation on a pet here and there if wild growth doesn't fall on them
if and only if
, everyone else is fine. I have never had anyone ask me to heal their pet, but i suppose wild growth takes care of that for me so a pet dying is rarely from lack of heals.
5-mans: Absolutely, I'll take care of your pet (after the tank, me and the dps).
Raids: You're on your own unless you're in one of my guild runs where the dps isn't retarded and knows not to stand in fire, AoEs etc etc :p
As a lock, it's easy to keep your demon alive.
Health Funnel
is a channeled spell, but I rarely need the entire length of the channel. If your pet is taking enough damage that health funnel isn't enough, learn to control your pet and how to call it back and forth out of damage, how to have it attack the correct target so it isn't off tanking something it shouldn't be etc etc.
As a DK, if your minion is taking too much damage you can throw a
Death Coil
at it. It's just a tad harder to do if you don't have the RP for one at the time you need it, but if you find yourself needing to heal your pet too often, stick a talent point in
Ghoul frenzy
, learn how to use it properly and, same as above,
learn to control your pet
.
I can't speak for hunters seeing as I haven't levelled one beyond the 20's yet. And my mage has always been fire, although my friend is a frost mage and doesn't seem to have any problems with her elemental, has never asked anyone to heal it and I have seen her bandage it on more than one occasion.
It really comes down to learning how to control your pet. The best example I can give that everyone would understand is Heroic Utgarde Pinnacle, first boss.
When she traps someone on the platform and is up in the air and that HUGE SWORD OF DOOM is coming down, have you ever noticed all the pets standing there attacking air? Yeah... call them back or it's usually an insta-kill on them. Now think about how many pets you've seen die there ^-^ I rest my case.

Heal warlocks, we lifetap. Some healer once wouldn't heal me because "you was killing yourself"
The only time I'd not heal a warlock who lifetapped is when I've just filled my mana with drinking.
Same thing goes to people that have been ressed. I res and buff, then drink - this is where you eat.
Also wipe, = all run in, not all go afk while the healer runs in. I just flat out refuse to res anyone who doesn't run in after a wipe, unless they asked me beforehand.
I once had a group waiting 30mins for a guy to run in, we only had the last boss to go too :)

lol at some people
tank>healer>DPS>pet
This is what keeps getting said here, I have news for you, even if pets are 4th on the list they stil are on the mother*!@#ing list.
Healers OFTEN have nothing to do in heroics, evenso that somtimes that little protpaladin goes ret in a normal heroic as he has nothing to tank anyway with a furywarrior and DK wacking away.
Hell, most healers I know these days when they want they push over 2k DPS in heroics.

Deciding to add a bit more here,
Your job is to fill up the little green bars on the screen and keep them from going empty. The job of the dps is to dps. They'd be slowing down the whole run pulling their pet back to spend half the battle mending it to keep it from croaking. As would you by arguing that healing a part of the team is not what you do. They're there to do damage, not heal. that's
your
job. If you're neglecting the little green bar just because it's not directly controlled by a player, urdoinitwrong.
I've never intentionally healed a pet. EVER. Raid or Heroic. I've never seen a pet die. Hunters whining about people healing their pets are hunters that are too lazy to do their own mending between fights. Pets are YOUR class feature, so they're YOUR responsibility. Period. Pets have avoidance for a reason.
Hell, sometimes as a raid healer, I set my guildy's pet on focus to toss it a renew between raid wide damage. Just because I know his damage would be cut if half if it died. He's one of them rare beast master types y'know?
If you are setting your focus on your friends pet so you can top him off, you are definitely doing it wrong. I prefer to keep my focus on the boss, so that I can prep for what fresh hell they have coming next.

Also, if you need to target/focus the boss, you're doing something really, really wrong.
You sir, have no idea what you're talking about.

This depends highly on the situation. I have a good geared resto druid and heroics are a piece of cake with it. I don't care if everyone is standing in the fire, my hots are enough to overheal them. I recently dinged an alt priest and woke up just how stupid some dps are. It sickens me when the people stand in the fire and when asked to stop answer me "it's only a hc". Well duh! But my gear is 200-blues/some random epic pieces! Usually I just have to let the dps die because I just don't have enough time/spell power to heal everyone. Like the 3 dps standing in the HoS last boss lightning aoe thingy.

Is this discussion really happening?
Raids: If you're "raid healer" you heal the DPS. Pets are DPS. Do they not get chain heals? How do you manage that? Raid healing can go two ways: "whack-a-mole" or "know what you're doing." I suggest the latter. If you're throwing group heals on the melee, you're getting most pets too.
Heroics: Really? As a healer, I am utterly bored in heroics. I'll heal ANYTHING.
Also, if you need to target/focus the boss, you're doing something really, really wrong. Install DBM.
I use DBM...it's not really good for much these days, as most of the warnings are announced by the game in raid warnings anyhow. Even so, you'll see it coming sooner if you have the boss on focus...if you were a competent healer, you'd already know this. But hey, I guess you're already occupied with topping off your buddy's pet turtle, right?

...and when you need the mana you wasted on that stupid turtle for someone who's actually hurt, I'll be over here laughing.
Pets don't NEED healing. I've never had one die on me, and I've never healed one in combat. There's no way I'm wasting screen space reconfiguring Grid to include them. Warlocks are getting enough of my mana from lifetapping, I'm not going to heal their imps too.
If the raid damage is so low that you have time to chase after healing puppies and kittens, then the damn pets aren't taking any damage anyway. People don't have avoidance, so raid members will *always* be taking more damage than pets, unless you've decided to let your Turtle tank Marrow, in which case...yeah, good luck with that. Healing pets is a retarded passtime for bored healers who are (I guess) too lazy to smite and drop SWP on targets.
