The new voiced over battle for undercity
Return to board index

Having played through it on most of my characters now, I today got my tauren warrior to 73 and did battle for undercity, pleasently surprised at the now full voice over.
Thrall was, of course, awesome and just how I would picture him in battle. It also made sense the voice change to sylvanas, given the voice actress as her now in this (and icc5mans).
It really made the moments stronger for me, with Thrall and Varok at the end talking, finally hearing the sincerity he talks with to Varok.
I also, on a personal level, having my detest for Varian fueled again in this, actully hearing him how he talks to my hero in this, how he discribed my faction and its honor as nothing, I just wanted to form a raid on stormwind right at that moment, lol, gj blizzard in reminding me.
Overall, its awesome now they've done this.

Yup... This was back in 3.2... :P
It was the first time Saurfang had a voice. I was so giddy.... :3
And yeah, the tone in Varian's voice... He didn't sound angry and heated, which was the old excuse. I nearly bought the old excuse that Varian was just being rash because he was still in "fight mode" and was full of adrenaline...
But when I heard him speak, he calmly tells us that he is going to remove us and all our people from the planet. And I doubt he means to send us all to Outland.

Sylvanas's voice still sucks massively though.

Why couldn't they have found the WC3 actor?

maybe they want to make us dislike her so that we wont get much disapointed IF she gets killed somehow in the future...
but its just a thought ^^

Frankly it wouldn't bother me if she was still voiced by that old voice actress or the new one, I've given up caring about Sylvanas after the pit of saron.

Indeed its what I thought. Anyone could have passed off the tired out 'varian suffered as a slave' excuse before, but after hearing him with a cold, calculating voice as that, and how he blantently passed off all the honor, and all the good the horde had done in the past as nothing, and even refered to my hero Thrall as the villain.
Excuse me, I'm gonna go use my BBgun on him..

Oh, I didn't know this was the big event that got a voiceover... I knew Blizzard were leaning more into that direction, but that was it.
Now I can't wait to get my druid to Northrend, so I can try it out :)

I didn't see Varok on my nelf.That's because you're a dirty elf.
Varok teleports in after Jaina teleports out.
Not that those two events are related. I've heard ridiculous statements from Alliance players stating that Jina teleported him in. That's just silly.

Varian most definitely had conquest in mind. He heard that the Horde had lost the Undercity and his first thought was to take it for the Alliance.
And killing Jaina would have been a terrible political move. Imagine this:
1. Varian kills Jaina
2. Theramore feels betrayed and afraid and angry. This would be an act of war, as Theramore is not subject to Stormwind's rule.
3. Thrall is !@#$ed. He's reliving Taretha again through Jaina's death, and Varian becomes Blackmoore in his mind.
4. Horde offers Theramore the prospect of an Alliance for safety and vengeance.
5. The Alliance loses soldiers, and more importantly, a port.
6. Other Alliance nations fear for their own freedom, as if Varian is allowed to kill one ruler, it could easily mean their own necks if they displease him.
Overall, it destablizes the Alliance and strengthens the Horde. Bad political move. Varian can't openly kill Jaina at the moment. He'd have to either villify her very well in the eyes of her people first (he could stage Horde attacks on Theramore and blame Jaina for consorting with them, as Germany did with Poland in WW2) or he could have her killed subtly, and blame it on the Horde.
But I don't think he's bad enough to do either of those. So he can't kill her yet.

yet.
This.
Also, how did Taretha die anyway? And what was the connection between her and Thrall?
She was definetely no help in busting him out of jail in CoT.Bah, CoT sux0r'd when compared to the book.
1. Taretha was Thrall's older "sister" and a servant to Aedalas Blackmoore. Her parent's raised Thrall and she cared for him, even sending him letters when he was made into a slave. Eventually she helped him escape by starting the fires in Durnholde. Later she was chosen to be Blackmoore's mistress (against her will, of course), and he beat her from time to time when he was drunk.
2. Aedalas learned of Thrall's letters and that it was Taretha who helped him escape, so the day before Thrall attacked Durnholde, he had her beheaded and threw her head down to Thrall.

But I don't think he's bad enough to do either of those. So he can't kill her yet.He won't, ever. Varian isn't an idiot(no matter what you all say heh); killing the leader of Theramore would cause more trouble within the alliance then it would with the Horde. Yes, Thrall would be chomping at the bit to smash Varian into paste.... but killing another ruler, especially a Hero of Hyjal, would turn the other Alliance races against Stormwind. I can't see Magni or the Gnome leader following tamely along with that, as Theramore is one of the bases of the Explorer's league on Kalimdor(lore wise). Velen of course wouldn't stand for it, and Tyrande and Malfurion are allies of Jaina more then Varian and Stormwind, just because they know her better after the events of Hyjal.
Still, wish Broll and Valeera could have gotten voices... or you know, fought with us.

But like I said, I don't think he's bad enough to do either of those.

Varian would do anything to be honest.
After all those long years imprisoned in Alcaz Island just off Theramore, I doubt if his conscience is quite as affected, and he may have a deep down grudge for those in Theramore not aiding him.
Plus he has a massive chin. It could be an accident.
Jaina wants to talk to Varian on the walls of Theramore at sundown to profess her secret love for him, and he walks up the stairs, turns around and "Aaah!" *Splat*.
Bye, bye, Miss Proudmoore.
