I chose a Hunter because the hunter/ranger archetype has always appealed to me in past RPG's- I like the idea of living an isolated life in the woods, far from people, but close to the most ferocious beasts in nature.
I chose a Draenei because, although the Night Elf look appealed to me more, the racials for the Draenei looked more useful, and I had already decided to be a JC.

Depends, are we talking my Alliance main or my Horde main?
I started playing before Burning Crusade came out; my first character was a Human mage. However, I got bored with going *squish* all the time, and the friend with whom I was playing dropped out.
I took about a four-month break, and then started again after BC dropped. One of my friends wanted to play an Alliance shaman, which meant Draenei; I looked at the other classes available, and decided that the hybrid ability of a paladin would be cool. Thus was born Xaratherus, and he was my main for a long time.
Eventually, I leveled a shaman myself (another Draenei); after hitting 80, and a bunch of drama wherein the guild I had led for a year (and had existed for a year prior to that) fell apart, I decided to take another break from WoW. When I came back, a co-worker asked if I would join him on his server - as Horde. So I transferred and faction-changed, and voila, my Draenei shaman became a Tauren instead. I now play him more than my paladin - although I will probably transfer and faction-change him as well once Cata comes out, and I can be a cowadin.

Blizzard gave me a choice. I can play a dopey looking human that I play as everyday in real life, or a ZOMBIE. I was determined to play the Forsaken, and was just fiddling with the classes and started with mage. I loved it.
Forgot I made him just to test the class and got way too much stuff for him. So I stuck it out with that horrible "wisps" hairstyle and no jaw until the barbershops came out.
Other than that, I love killing large groups of mobs for most of my attacks.

No joke, I picked warlock back when the most we knew about wow classes was the 3 spell "preview" on the WoW site when it was in Alpha. It listed the warlock having 3 abilities: Demonic control, spell reflect and immolation. Being a huge fan of undead in war3 I immediately picked Warlock as my class, and thats what I played in open beta and for all of vanilla wow. Too bad the whole spell reflect part didnt end up exactly defining the class :P
Since then my main has changed, but I will ALWAYS have a capped warlock alt as I feel attached to that class after this amount of time....and after enduring months of SM/Ruin and being 1 shot by rogues in ubrs gear with +250 agi while I had +0 spell power! (yay vanilla itemization)

I chose to be a Druid because of the sheer versatility of the class.
