Why is lying immoral?

You can't change humans. Exactly the opposite. You HAVE TO control humans with laws and then threaten them with punishment if you really want order. Most humans aren't moral creatures - they do whatever they want to benefit themselves the most. The punishment for smuggling alcohol just needs to be made greater than it was.

Not hurting anybody? I could burn down your house, it might not hurt you if you're not there, but it is going to be detrimental to you. Most things that are criminal are criminal because there are detrimental effects to other people.
I don't agree with all laws though (alcohol being legal and marijuana being illegal is in my mind like saying that its ok to rape someone but its illegal to have sex), but you can't just say "Eh, laws are junk, I'm going to do whatever I want", because if everyone did that, society would break down.
I did not say all laws are junk, and I did not read that in arathian's post.
You even agree with me on the part that some laws are asinine, and about the lying I think its the same with laws, it all boils down to consequences as I said previously.
EDIT:
@Victory:
We ( as in goverments) can ilegalize alchool, We dont want to, too many revenues and cultural barriers for that to happen, if the goverment baned alchool here in Portugal they would be out of the chair in no time at all.
Also as Mediator said you cant change human nature (this is not individualy, but colectively)
@Mediator:
Laws and
punishements
Justice should not and cannot be be unreasonable or it will just be
revenge
and invitation for
rebelion
big problems.

No, there's no idea banning alcohol. See

And for TheMediator, laws are avoidable. Here in Finland cigarette prices are mostly made of taxes to pay for treating the lung-cancer of smokers. Still, treating lung-cancer pays so much that we need to tax the cigs more. And how do the smokers react? They smuggle cigs from Russia (no taxes in them). We already pay for their mistakes, but they're acting like they don't need to pay for them
at all
, and let non-smokers pay for everything.
We can change humans by controlling reproduction.
You're assuming that every aspect of human nature is genetic, which shows how little you know about what you're saying. Indeed, most things like that come about through nurture not nature.

All right. Hypothetical dilemma.
Let's say you're in Nazi Germany with some Jews hidden in your basement. And you hear a knock on the door.
You open it up...and it's you're girlfriend asking if this dress makes her look fat

Haha.
This isn't asking what another philosopher said, but what you think. You can use arguments others have used, but your answer shouldn't be 'well, Socrates says X and Aristotle says Y... and Kant says Z...'
