I leveled my druid (still am, 75 atm) as feral to level 40 when I respec'd to get moonkin form. That's when I also got Dual Spec and spec'd Resto / Balance figuring that I could use the same gear. It's really slow leveling until outlands, just like the sticky said. One you get into some BC gear it really picks up, the bad part is that your mana is for damage and healing, which means decent downtime.
Leveling as feral you obviously dont use mana except to heal which means little or no downtime. Now that I'm in mostly instance and quest reward blues from northrend I have almost no downtime as balance and i use the same gear (spirit & haste heavy) for both specs.
Open with Starfire, Moonfire, Starfire & Wrath and the mob is *usually* dead, I take 2-3 hits before the mob dies.
Also, Cloth is your friend, I found that there's not alot of leather upgrades for Balance / Resto without taking ~50% cloth.

Completely understandable. I started leveling a Warlock for my 4th 80 so I went all out and got her
Dignified Headmaster's Charge
,
Tattered Dreadmist Robe
&
Tattered Dreadmist Mantle
. After realizing how much leveling a Warlock was like leveling my Hunter I made a druid and just mailed the gear over to her. It works and the stats are sweet for Resto especially. I say go for it, 2 DPS questing is very fast and you could throw heals in a pinch if need be and could take on most group quests and elites as DPS / Healer.

Well, if a guy doesn't think WoW is all that funny (or maybe just not all the time), he has to find a way to get away from it. Can't blame him, really.
As for leveling as balance, go for it. I've done it, and didn't find it at all unpleasant (except for one period when I went grinding at a time when boomkin were justly called oomkin). Partnering up, of course, makes it a whole lot easier.
A nice aspect of leveling a caster druid is that you can heal instances. You can heal pretty much any fiveman until Northrend, as long as you're decently geared. If you have money to spare, dual at 40 and use the same gear for resto. Then you can tag along with groups in LFD with ease when world play bores you.
Only actual problem is PvP once the ability to escape your roots becomes prevalent. Still, you're a druid. Make like a cross beween a turtle and a hare, and you'll frustrate the H out of most any attacker.
