Simply put, this is the new BiS tank idol. Why would I get it? 44 x 5 = 220 agility (261 with talents and kings) is FTW.

Hi Aadra, you're up late it seems. It's what about midnight there?
It's clearly the superior choice for any fight you're able to maintain lacerate, Due to the manner it works slapping a single lacerate on several mobs will generate a full stack very quickly but if they just die too quickly like in most heroics or if there's a very large number of mobs such as whelps on Ony
Mutilation
may be worth keeping onhand.
NM to it, if you often find yourself tanking bosses it's worth getting, if you don't find yourself tanking bosses often then you might want to reconsider exactly what it is you've been doing.

I'd suggest
not
buying it for a while.
The old Idol will give 200 agility with a 100% uptime. Even not counting the obvious advantage on trash and the instant availability vs the slow build-up for the new idol on bosses ... 200 agility vs 220 agility really is not that much of a difference. There are
way
better upgrades. Right now the frost emblems are very, very rare for everyone and the idol should be one of the last pieces of gear to change.
Yes, it is BiS. But it is not that far superior to the old one, emblems are better spent on other things.

It's not quite that great.
It only increases by 44 agility for each tick of lacerate, and since lacerate ticks every 3 seconds, it takes the full 15 secs to even reach 220 agility.
If the 15 secs begins counting immediately at the first lacerate tick and isn't refreshed on each tick, then it'll expire just as it reaches maximum potential.
If, on the other hand, the 15sec timer resets each tick, then this is most certainly a nice little idol.
Edit: spelling. I'm tired. Worked 24 of the last 48 hours, and it's supposed to be the weekend. :(

For Cats, 261 > 200 agility... so its better imo.Wrong. Think again.
261 agility (after a 15 seconds ramp up time and with chance of falling off on fights that require a lot of movement) versus
237
agility (talents + kings) on the Mutilation, immediately activated on Mangle / Shred.
This new Idol will be better only if you can reapply Rake before expiration time of the buff. Otherwise cats are better off with Mutilation.
Bears will find this excellent for boss tanking. Even with its 15 seconds ramp up time, pure 261 agility is much better than the 200 dodge rating granted by the Mutilation Idol. For tanking mobs that die in less than 15 second (even 20), Mutilation wins. 200 instant dodge rating > 44 agility every 3 seconds.

Copying in what I posted on the item:
I've tested this out a bit as a bear, and ended up refunding it on the vendor.
It only stacks up when lacerate ticks, 3 seconds after being applied. Since I build up lacerate to 5 stacks at the start of the fight (only interrupted by mangle when it comes of CD), it takes almost 15 secs before lacerate starts ticking, and another 10-15 seconds before the idol is at full stack. If lacerate drops of the mobs, you need to reapply it with 4+ seconds left on stack, or it will fade before tick.
For 5man heroic trash, they are usually dead before lacerate can tick any at all.
In short, it takes too long to build up, and is too hard to keep up to be worth it. Now, if it stacked on applying lacerate, that would be something else.

I agree with the general consensus in here, certainly BiS but it will probably be the last thing I spend my frost emblems on since it's not a huge upgrade like most of the other items. Frost emblem tanking trink FTW. The cloak is extremely nice too given our lack of choices in cloaks.
just to make sure: are you talking about
this one
or
this one
?
This'll probably get the discussion of "tanking jewelry vs. agi jewelry" going again, but tbh I don't care. Actually that's the plan ^^

The strength badge cloak will be better when it's among the first upgrades to lvl 251+ gear and progression tanking. At a certain level the agility cloak will offer so much more in terms of fun. Tanking with all that crit, armor penetration and stuff like that will make some DPS happy.
I'm getting into some napkin math here to make a comparison.
Strength cloak + 30 stamina gem offers (talents + Kings) 214 AP, 2510 HP, 1777 armor, 1.61% dodge and 0.39% miss.
Agility cloak + 30 stamina offers 105 AP, 1960 HP, 1405 armor, ~2.5% dodge, 2.65% crit, 4.22% armor penetration. So 100 less AP, ~500 less HP, 370 less armor but 0.5% more avoidance, 2.65% crit and some armor penetration.
I for one find it pretty damn close to the strength cloak, and once my gear contains more 251+ pieces I'll be glad to use it for tanking. So much fun! 60K HP, 33K armor, 28-29% dodge (chill of the throne included) and at the same time 55%+ crit and 800+ armor penetration rating? GIEF!
10K Maul crits FTW *daydreaming*

10K Maul crits FTW *daydreaming*
Had some weird glitchyness while tanking the new heroics and I was getting entirely random 11k maul crits. No buffs or gimmicks to speak of either. Just sat back and pressed my "I believe" button and kept chain pulling.

I must say I started using agi jewelry for the new ICC5 hc's, because dps were zerghappy and not attacking my target and stuff. And they sure had a harder time pulling mobs from me when I did :D
But that's 5mans, so EH is "less important". I'll still use
the exalted tanking ring
in raids. Armor proc <3 Too damn bad I can't get the agi ring as well though -_-
And I still stand by mitigation > avoidance in ICC ;-) At least until I got some T10 material as Aadra said. Might test it out some more after that.
tasty future tanking polearm
GIEF! <3
