I was wondering if someone could show me where exactly in WoW's terms of use does it say that private servers are against the rules? I can see how powerleveling, gold-buying, and everything else is bad, but how is a private server? In a private server, you seldom ever have the scripting of a "live" realm, you may not have all of the spells or even have damaged loot-tables, or vendor tables. a private server does nothing to damage Blizzard unless they also force people to pay money to play.
I myself have only ever had a private server so i could see what all of the content is that has always been hidden from the average players. Things such as the players could never dream of getting some of the epics from Illidan or from any of the other powerful bosses in the world. I dont share my server with people, and i barely use it myself, but i only do it to see what it is like to reach end-game material.

Only Blizzard or its licensees have the right to host the Game. You may not host or provide matchmaking services for the Game, or intercept, emulate or redirect the proprietary communication protocols used by Blizzard in connection with the Program, regardless of the method used to do so. Such prohibited methods may include, but are not limited to, protocol emulation, reverse engineering, modifying the Program, adding unauthorized components to the Program, or using a packet sniffer while the Program is running.Found

Except for taking possible subscribers away from the game.
You should also be aware that discussing private servers is against Wowhead's
rules
, so in the future, please do not do so.
