Hey all, some month ago I dinged 80 with my rogue and started to pvp with the main goal of doing 2vs2 arena's.
I teamed up with a priest who is also new at pvp.
We read a lot of tactics, guides, etc... you name it.
He is disc spec and I use this spec :
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#fhxcoeMoirsMzZ0xZebfb0hdb:TjiVzc.
We both realize that our gear is very low atm (
http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Quel%27Thalas&n=Greenowl) but we did not expect it was going to be THAT bad.
So mainly it goes something like this for me:
1. Stealth,
2. try and sap enemy (pref. healer), blind when he come out of sap. Priest fears when blind wears off
3. Try to kill second enemy.
4. Fail
Why Fail?
1. Because I just keep hitting the second player but I only get him untill 50% (if i'm lucky). I just don't do enough damage. Tactic: cheap shot, mutilate, cold blood, eviscerate. Then mutilate & eviscerate (or kidney shot sometimes) as much as possible
2. When I switch from sap first player to second player, my priest is most of the time already killed.
I know this is very hard to analyze since there are 101 things that we could do wrong. But I hope someone can give me extra pointers. I also know that our gear sucks and that the gap is huge with the other teams but still we did not expect to get ganked like hell all the time.
I also have a lot of friends who are experienced in arenapvp but none of them know a lot about priest/rogue in arena....
Any help will help..
Kind regards,
Green

I'm no expert in rogue arena, but I'll give you the little advice that I have. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, since I understand that everyone has to start somewhere. Sorry for the upcoming wall of text. =P
First off - your gear is severly hurting your capabilities for arena. You've got a few pieces of deadly glad, which is definitely on the right track. Have you and your teammate farm Wintergrasp and BGs to get more honor, and buy the gladiator's helm and chest. While you're doing all those WG's, you'll be quickly farming up the marks required to get
these legs. The stats and sockets are great, and the hit rating is something that can be hard to find on PvP gear.
Here is a list of the various pieces of gear that you want to be aiming for. Yes, you will need a LOT of honor (I'm talking at least 300K by the time you're done).
Next - gemming and enchanting. This is also something that should definitely be done. If you can't afford the best enchants or gems - fine. Just get
something as opposed to empty sockets. As a rogue - you gem for AP when it comes to PvP. For now, pick up an AP/resil and AP/stam gem to fulfill your meta requirement when you pick up that PvP helm.
Titanium Weapon Chain is a
MUST for your offhand weapon. Imagine running up against another rogue who dismantles you. That's 10 seconds where you're running around with no weapons- essentially useless. Get one and slap it on your OH weapon.
When it comes to weapons, you can easily find a decent pair of daggers in HToC - namely the
Black Knight's Rondel. However, as someone who's DPSed and tanked HToC many times, you're not ready for it yet gear-wise. I'm not sure if you have a separate set of gear for PvP and PvE, but you need to do a bit more grinding in other heroics for PvE gear in order to pull your weight in HToC. Furthermore - combat daggers is bad. Don't do it - ever. Since you already have some daggers, just respec into Mut spec, which will likely also help you get a feel for how the combo points and energy generation works with a Mutilate build.
Another option for daggers are a pair of
Spinal Destroyer. However, getting to the point where you can pick up the champion's seals for two of those will take you at least two weeks of dedicated grinding the tournament dailies.
As with most things in this game, PvP comes with practice. There is, however, a minimum gear level required for many things, and like I said before you're simply not there yet. For my lock PvP partner (we add a priest for 3's), if ever there's any target with less than 20K or 22K health, it's usually dead within about 4 seconds of one of us opening on it (unless it's a pally who bubbles...). Depending on the class, I'll disable their healer while he bursts the thing to death.
Furthermore - a LARGE portion of effective Arena is communication. If you have access to a vent server, use it. Otherwise, the two of you can download skype and call each other that way. There have definitely been times where I'm focusing on my target, and I don't even realize that my teammate is getting eaten alive by <insert class here> until he says something. Learning how to work with your partner and communicate effectively is important. Often enough, all that needs to be said is something like "sapped", "stun", "fear", etc, for your partner to know exactly what's going on to you.
Long story short - get the gear and do the practice. PvP is far more situational than any PvE environment, since you're playing aganist someone else instead of a pre-determined, pre-calculated encounter. Sitting down and hashing out a "rotation" isn't really that great of an idea either, since you have to base your decisions on what's going on around you.
In the meantime, however - keep doing at least 10 matches per week. Even if you lose most/all of them, you'll still get awarded arena points, which you can use towards buying upgrades later one when the two of you get some more practice.
