Surprisingly, this is sort-of a question and a comment mixed into one. I would say that my mage is decked out in mostly Ulduar-10/TotC10 level stuff (basically the exemplification of casual gear), and in times past, have had "problems" with my dps. Basically, when people asked what it was, I could never give them a straight answer, because it jumped around so much; in VoA, it might be 3k, whereas in Naxx, it could shoot upto 5k. I understand that buffs and fight mechanics can make a huge difference, but I have raided enough with the same people to leave most of that constant.
However, recently I have sort-of started exploring the class more, and have came up with an answer that might be correct; cooldowns. I understand that Arcane Mages have quite a few cooldowns; Icy Veins, Arcane Power, Mirror Image (even better with T10 bonus), PoM, trinkets... After sort-of "chain-ganking" cooldowns during one raid (making that variable constant), I seem to be getting roughly constant dps. High dps. Higher then my TotC25 geared guild-leader warlock.
So my question is: can cooldowns make that much of an impact on your dps, and if so, what order/timing should they be used in. All at the same time (as much as possible), or spread out? Currently, I've been sort-of spreading them out (waiting for one to finish before the next) ;; {Run In, Mirror Image (for aggro control + dps), Arcane Power, Icy Veins, PoM+Trinkets, then just as they come off cooldown}.
Final Question: if cooldowns are so important, would it be worth it to replace one of my trinkets with
the one from the EoT vendor, with the on-use +SP or +Haste effect? Right now I have a total of 3 proc effects on my toon (tailoring cloak, two trinkets), and I feel that maybe an on-use tinket would help stabilize my dps furthur, I just dont know if it would be a dps increase. Thanks for the help.
