(( The battle for the Argent Vanguard has begun... ))
- Nilon fought with Light-based savagery. He was weak from hunger but the Light kept him strong, as it did all others that served it. Without it, they would have been wiped out in a matter of minutes by the undead.
- The undead came in waves, but the living and - although Nilon still didn't trust them - the three death knights managed to keep them at bay. Morec - as the “Scourgelord” had so conveniently announced his presence - continued to fly on his frost wyrm high above all others, raining down powerful unholy and frost attacks.
- They had an advantage, though. Judging by the holy power flowing through him, Nilon speculated that Highlord Fordring had already consecrated the ground in and around the compound. The Scourge wouldn’t win; however, they
would
deal a hefty toll on the living's numbers.
- But while nothing could stand up against their combined might,
nothing
could stand against Tirion. The Ashbringer sung as he used it to level the numbers of the Scourge. Morec dared not get closer, lest he too be purged.
- Nilon spent little time on these thoughts, and then immediately turned his attention back to the fighting. A massive skeleton raised its sword to cut Nilon down, but the rogue Slayer leapt in between it and Nilon. One of her blades parried the attack while she jabbed another into the undead's spine. The blow broke the bones and crippled it. Nilon ended it and then turned his attention back to Slayer. She, however, was gone.
- He shrugged and rejoined the battle.
...
- Morec dared not get closer, less he be purged by the flames of the Ashbringer. The living were powerful, of that there was no doubt, however Fordring was preoccupied dealing with the other Scourge. If Morec could get just close enough, he could pummel the Highlord with magic and-.
- His thoughts were disrupted as he felt magic wrap around him. He knew the spell that affected him, for it was of death knight origin.
- He was pulled from his mount and sent plummeting towards the ground. With a wave of his hand he pulled several bones from his nearby minions to soften his landing. After he hit the ground he jumped to his feet, Bloodfester already in his hands.
- Two death knights - one human, one elf - and a skeletal minion stood before him. They were clearly enemies as they eyed him with pure contempt and malice.
- "The Ebon Blade, I presume?" Morec said. "Tell me; at Light's Hope, did either of you or your leader at one point pause to consider the fact that the entire set of events was just a test of your loyalty?"
- The three attacked together, but Morec thrust his left hand forward, casting a spell that tossed them both back before they had a chance to reach him. "Had you not given in to
weakness
," Morec continued, "perhaps you would be able to best me."
- At that point a third death knight wearing dark robes and wielding two powerful swords ran into the area.
- "Ebon Watcher, retreat!" the elf said. "He's too powerful!"
- The Ebon Watcher starred at Morec in contempt. "Sickening Scourge!" he said, "you will pay for this outrage! I am the Ebon Watcher, eyes and ears of-."
- "Don't even try to hide behind your pathetic disguise," Morec interrupted, pointing Bloodfester at the other death knight. "I know exactly who you are;
Darion Mogriane
."
- The Ebon Watcher scowled, and then the spell that kept his disguise of faded. Where the Ebon Watcher had once stood now stood Darion Mograine in full battle armor. "
Die, Scourge
!" he yelled and brought his swords down at Morec.
- The Scourgelord responded by bringing Bloodfester up in a massive sweep that knocked the Ebon Highlord's blades off course. Morec then brought his sword back around, hitting Darion full in the chest.
- The force of impact shattered the Mograine's chestplate and ribs, as well as sent him flying backwards. Morec grinned as the two other death knights ran to help him, and then carried him off.
That's right, retreat
! Morec thought,
run from the might of the Scourge
!
- He almost called for Umbragos, but then looked into the fray of battle. Nilon had been forced away from the rest of the group, now fighting off multiple Scourge soldiers on his own. The Scourgelord grinned maliciously, and then walked towards him.
- It was
too
easy.

I don't see how Morec can be so powerful that he bests Darion. :S

The idea is that he's been granted so much power by the Lich King that he is the second most powerful death knight. However, there is also the possibility that Darion underestimated him, not to mention Bloodfester's own power.
He's not invincible, though, Tirion would wtfpwn him in a second, and Nilon could put up a decent fight, if magical prowess was removed or equaled out.

Caused by the destruction of a part of him that had been exposed.
EDIT: Even on unholy ground, that would have been a painful experience, most likely why they were going to ritualy destroy it instead of crushing it flat out.

Writer's Commentary:
- In highsight, I think Morec may have been a bit too powerful here. I'll try and fix that later on in the story. Even so, the Argent Vanguard is well under attack, many of the soldiers are dying, and Morec still wants Nilon dead.
- And it looks like he's about to get another chance.
- Nilon may be able to put up a good fight, but he's still nothing compared to Morec's power. Slayer may come to his aid, but I doubt she's a match for the Scourgelord. His only hope is Tirion, and who knows where in the fray of battle he is.
- Is this the end? Well... obviously not, but I might take it in a new direction (i.e. Death Knight Nilon ).

A look at things to come...
- "
You have done well, Scourgelord
," the Lich King said.

I doubt he would turn Fordring into a DK.

Heh, speculation abounds... I shall reveal

Well, other then a multitude of new characters are introduced in Page 6...
Who or what they are, I'm not saying.

Serious question for my readers: who would like to see the return of Garen and John?

Hmm.... not Garen and John, but Celen? :)
Well I can't very well let her be forgotten, can I? Nilon will have to retrive her corpse from the Scourge eventually.
