How can I stop achievements from ruining the game for me?

The simple answer, I know, is to ignore them. For some reason, I have a bit of a problem doing that. I'll go after even the silly achievements that have no effect on the actual game whatsoever.
Some achievements come with a material reward. Say you fish up the turtle mount or get the violet proto drake or some other such object. Some you even get cool titles for to show off, if nothing else.
But why did I complete
Well Read
or
To All the Squirrels I've Loved Before
?
Sure, it added ten points to my total score, but I spent a good chunk of time doing it and I can't say that it was even enjoyable. It felt more like I was raking leaves or taking out the trash or some other chore.
But that feeling hasn't stopped me for pursuing other random and useless achievements.
What do I actually enjoy the most about the game? Leveling alts. So my problem is that I only run achievements on one character because I don't have time to get them on all of my alts.
I want to not see the achievements anymore. What's worse is that sometimes I will successfully ignore them for a day or two until I get one unplanned achievement by accident and then I go: Neat! I wonder what other achievements I am close to getting that I didn't realize! Then I'll spend an hour going through each of the achievements to see what I am close to.
I know that there are some that I will simply never get because I don't have the time, but that pushes me to get the ones that I know I can.
I wish to ignore them all and move on with the game and enjoy it as I did before the achievement system was implemented.
Damn you, Blizzard. Damn you all to hell!

So like...you do the achievements and then complain when you get the achievements? I'm kind of confused, or just missing the point of this post.
My point is that, sure, they are nice to have but I find that most are not worth it. For me. And by not worth it, I mean not fun.
I don't do primary crafting professions, other than gathering ones. I never have. Sure, once I tried leveling alchemy and I got it almost to the max, when the max at the time was about 375. But I didn't enjoy it. It was a pain, it ended up not serving me any purpose in the end, and I felt I could have had more fun doing something else.
I've never again been tempted to level a crafting profession but for some reason I have a hard time removing the temptation to make 500 frostweave bandages.

I just do the achievements that either are indications of skill (like the Heroic 5-man achievements) or that give my character a tangible benefit (like the holiday achievements for the increased speed mount). I've done a few of the flavor achievements as well, but I don't go out of my way for them. There's no point, in my eyes. I already have one job. I don't need two. :)

I am not so much addicted as I am a completionist and I can't stand having partial things done, especially when it is my power to do them. I do take breaks from WoW occasionally, usually for 2 months at a time. I recently came back from one at the end of September. I have another one coming up in February, most likely.
I'll probably go back to my RP server for a while and play with the couple of characters I have over there. I know many people frown on RP because the game isn't really designed in such a way that facilitates it, but I get a kick out of it. It might serve me well to head over to Earthen Ring for a while and chill with the RPers.

I meant what I said. Alchemy served me no purpose. I was not in a guild and I am currently not in a guild. I don't raid - never have. Sure, I could farm mats and sell them for money, but I don't need any money because I'm not currently doing anything that requires me to have it.
When I started alchemy way back in 2006, yes I was ignorant to alot of things. I didn't plan out what my end game was going to be and I didn't even have my first max level character until a couple of months before Burning Crusade.
For the level at which I play the game right now, whether I am RPing or just grinding heroics for fun, I can find no genuinely useful reason to level up any crafting profession if I am not raiding. Any gear I get from heroics is good enough for me to ... well, continue with heroics. Any enchants or buffs I get from any of the other professions don't really benefit me to the point that they're worth hours of farming or thousands of gold to level them.
