Im sure some of you have seen this already.

There seems to be some controversy and parental uproar over this sex scene between a male human and a male elf in the game Dragon Age Origins. There are plenty of other sex scene scenarios within the game, but this one specifically has been receiving the most attention.
This is not the first time there has been a gay sex scene in a video game. If anyone has played the game Mass Effect, there was a
sex scene
between two female characters.
My questions are
1. Should gay sex scenes be allowed in video games that can be easily accessed by young kids?
2. Is there a double standard in society that popularizes two women kissing or having sex but is against two men doing the same?
3. If anyone has played either of these two games, what was your reaction when you came upon these two scenes?

It is completely up to a child's parents to moderate what video games a child is allowed to play. If it says "M" on the box, it's up to the parent to decide whether or not their child should play it. Putting a sex scene into a game is nothing different than putting a sex scene into a movie or book, no matter if the sex is homosexual or heterosexual in nature. The only reason there is parental uproar is because most parents don't have common sense enough to check the rating on the back of the game.

1. Should gay sex scenes be allowed in video games that can be easily accessed by young kids? There's no reason not to. Games have heterosexual sex in them, why not homosexual? It really shouldn't be a big deal. If the parents have an issue with it, it was their choice to allow the child to see it. Similarly, any adults who are offended by it only have themselves to blame.
2. Is there a double standard in society that popularizes two women kissing or having sex but is against two men doing the same? Yup. Y'know, like the 'homophobes' who think lesbian sex is hot? That's a great example.

There was no sex in either of those scenes.
There are people that seek things to be offended by, these are some of those things. The companies know this, and did it for the free publicity (hence the lack of actual sexual content).
Like the time GAME 'banned' Manhunt, got the free publicity, then unbanned it a week or so later.

On a logical and conscious level, I don't think there is anything wrong with either one of those. Being homosexual makes a minority, not a freak of nature. All of the prejudices we have against gays (and lesbians, but not nearly as much with them) come from mass social reaction to them. We kind of grew up with the idea that being hetero is the way to go, and anything other than that is just wrong. Most of the guys "realized" later on that homosexual females is actually a pretty acceptable option.
On an emotional level, I think I wouldn't like the scene (I am not that far in DA yet). I understand I shouldn't be, but it's how I've been taught for one too many years, and change doesn't happen instantly. I applaud Bioware for adding that in a game though - we, as a society, need to start recognizing that homosexuals exist, and they are not to be condemned simply because they are different. Dragon Age might have made the right step a little too early, but I think it is good that something like this has been done.

No one has mentioned this yet, so I will. On the level of game-play, you can't actually get those scenes unless you role play a gay character. And I don't see anyone who is sensitive to that actually doing so.
And why was there no big deal about the lesbian 'sex scene' in Mass Effect?

Hyper, because it goes back to social acceptance. Lesbians are hot, gays are disgusting. It's a horrible way of thinking, but I don't see it changing for at least one more generation. There is progress, but it takes time...

If that is the case, my respect for Bioware grows even more. Forcing a scene like that down everybody's throat would have some negative effects. Allowing for an option, where you would get to the scene only if you wanted to, and thus - ensuring equality... pure awesome.

Well, actually, my point about how most parents are idiots is relevant to the thread. What parents think is wrong or distasteful in a game is pretty much a joke, since most parents are stupid and have nonsensical standards (mass murdering Russians, Arabs, Germans, etc., is acceptable, but two gay guys can't kiss each other without parents throwing a fit).

Your "most" is the part that's trolling the thread. My experience is very different from that - a huge percentage of the adults I know are very civil and understanding in the areas you listed. Bring a scientific study to show that your "most" is accurate and I am just lucky, and I'll let you keep going with the "idiots" argument.

I have yet to meet someone who agrees with lesbianism but is outspoken against gayness. I'm not saying there isn't anyone like that out there, but I really think we're talking about a handful of people that really have no bearing on national phenomena like this.
Every single person I know who fits in the 'ZOMG gay sex in Dragon Age! Bring out the Rope!' category (and trust me, I know a lot), are very much against lesbianism too.

If we take what the OP said to be true:
There seems to be some ... parental uproar
That seems to me to indicate that parents (not adults) are not understanding in this respect.
