Spirit beast DPS?

I've mostly been seeing nice numbers in heroics. Haven't really tested in raids but my guild is kind enough to let me bring him to 10 man ulduar. The BM spec with spirit beast numbers were better than when I switched to my SV spec and wolf later in the raid. Are other hunters having nice DPS numbers with their spirit beast and BM spec?

I've been learning that fighting certain raid bosses are more of a run around last until the end fight versus a sit still and shoot the boss til it dies fight. I've also been thinking about the comments on the spirit beast pages and see a lot of I caught -enter spirit beast name- at this location at this server time. Which can help others find their pets but there is nothing explaining how you should spec your pet for raids. I'm not asking for top DPS specs but explanations on how useful a spirit beast would be in a raid. I want to see: Heart of the Pheonix is useful because you don't have to waste mana reviving a pet and still maintain the DPS you would get from your pet. I'm writing this from my phone and hope to add the links in later.

I played around on
femaledwarf.com
and came up with this
spec
for me and this
spec
with my
Spirit Wolf
using my current gear.
I kept
HotP
and
LYW
because a dead pet for a BM hunter is a DPS loss. In my case it would be about a 923 DPS loss. By having those 2 abilities it freed up talents in my tree. I no longer need
Improved Revive Pet
and
Spirit Bond
.
I can now use points I would of spent in the tree for DPS increasing talents like
Animal Handler
and
Cobra Strikes
. It also decreases down time between fights since
Revive Pet
consumes 80% of your base mana.
Focused Aim
helps hunters reach their Hit cap. I only put 2 points in there because that is how many I needed to reach my 8% hit rating. Without it I would lose about 48 DPS. When I get better gear with more Hit I could move those points to different talents like
Mortal Shots
or
Improved Arcane Shot
.
Why
GFtT
and
Bestial Discipline
? Pets need Focus to do their special attacks and these attacks make up for about 50% of our pets DPS which would be a quarter of our overall DPS. I plan to watch my pets focus bar against a testing dummy to see if both talents are needed.
If I dropped Beast Mastery then my pet would end up with
this pet spec
. It would be about a 100 DPS loss and we wouldn't be able to use our favorite Spirit Beast.
This is it for now. I haven't tested it in a raid or heroic. I'll save that for another day. Time to go sleep.
Thanks to:
Nareik for your help and
guide
.
Gvnaruto for your quick response and posting the talent specs I could work with.
Yakutat for reminding me about how the fights are different between raid bosses.
P.S.
I think I should rename the post, "Who wants to raid with their Spirit Beast?" A subtitle for it would be "a collaborative effort from the Wowhead hunter community." Okay can't you tell I'm tired?
