I play two healers (Priest and Shaman), and while Pets are last on the priority list, they're still on my list. I know their value, and I never find myself in such dire straights that I can't throw a HoT or Shield up on em when they're goin' down.
That's kinda why I love PERL so much, easy to see the pet bar.
Would be nice to hear a hunter say "thank you" now and then, but then the world don't move to the beat of just one drum, so what might be right for me, might not be right for some.

In raids, the odd Wild Growth or CoH hit is enough to keep a pet alive, if the hunter is controlling it well enough.
Seeing as CoH and WG are smart heals, pets really shouldn't be needed to keep an eye on. Mend Pet is there for a reason.

If you think it's nice to not have to worry about your pet, or manage it, roll a DPS class without pets.
If you chose to play a hunter, chose to level it to 80, and chose to join a raid, you took on the responsibility to play your class, including your pet.
Don't blame the healers if you are unskilled at managing your pet, or can't be bothered with it.
I don't see warlocks whining about their pets. I can't even heal a warlock's imp, though I might be able to heal a felguard. But really, who raids with a felguard anymore?
Even DKs, I never get them fussing at me over their zombie minions, as much as they can sometimes be trouble over other issues.
I have a level 80 hunter, I get it that your pet is your special little buddy, and he helps your DPS, and he's had your back since you were level ten and running around the barrens together.
It doesn't make YOUR pet the healer's problem.
When a hunter joins your group, his/her pet becomes your pet, too. You're a team, and you have a common goal to complete a task. If you are the healer, heal everyone in your group, including the pets. Not at the expense of a player character, of course, but at least give it a try.
Keep in mind, I don't raid much, so I'm only talking about 5 man's and the rare 10 man. Taking one GCD to heal a pet never caused a wipe.
