Mid 70's weapon choice

I know it doesn't matter a whole lot which weapon I go with at this level, however, the one I choose will almost definitely be the one I use entering heroics, which makes it a bit more of an important choice.
Anyway, here's the important stuff:
Choice is between
Crescent of Brooding Fury
and
Hammer of Quiet Mourning
I am an orc
I am currently (and will be in heroics) using the Deep Wounds build
I am still obviously leveling, so if weapon speed or stats really matter for leveling, that needs to be taken into account
Now, I'm aware that for the Deep Wounds build, a slower weapon is preferred, and as I'm an orc, thats just even more added goodness for the crescent. However, I've heard many arguments that no matter what spec or race you are, the hammer is a better tanking weapon overall, and that a faster speed is much more beneficial.
I would appreciate any feedback, like I said, I know it may not be extremely important, but I've always liked having optimal gear while I level, especially when I'm closer to max level like this (the less I have to do at 80 before I can run heroics the better).

Axe.
Also why would a slower weapon be preferred for a Deep Wounds build? The way I see it, faster weapon = more Heroic Strikes = more crits = more Deep Wounds ticks, even if they tick for less, and of course more threat from the Heroic Strikes themselves.
But you're an orc, so the axe is preferable.

Thanks for the quick replies, I shall certainly pick up the axe.
Also, slower weapons are preferred for Deep Wounds because DW damage is based off of base weapon damage, and unless there's a huge difference in item level, slower weapons have more base damage than faster.

Yeah. However faster weapons will build Deep Wounds stack faster, so I'm not really sure I would prefer a slow weapon.
I recently gained a slow weapon (2.60) so I tried it for tanking. Rage generation was really low, my threat actually went down even though the damage gain was nice. I use a DW build.

Your GCD abilities can also proc deep wounds, and you don't get more of those with a fast weapon instead of a slow one, so in that sense slow weapons pull ahead; the difference is not large unless you are tanking many mobs though (since AoE moves can crit many times since they hit many targets).
Anyway, for raid tanking the fast weapon is far preferable due to heroic strike spam. That effect is far stronger.

But tanks also have doubled revenge bonus now (it was revenge that got doubled, right? not 100%, but I think it was). So slower weapons push out much more DPS and threat with that.
You must be thinking of Devastate, which went from 50% weapon damage to 100% weapon damage. Yes, with a slow weapon Devastate will do more damage than with a fast weapon.

Plus if you're looking at DW/TPS builds, the expertise will help you more than the dodge will.
It's devastate, but as I mentioned the potential effect from heroic strike completely dwarfs that. Whenever you have the rage to HS often, you will want as fast a weapon as possible.

I may be wrong. I probably am, since I don't crunch numbers or anything. But outwardly, it seems that devastate is a much more damaging ability now than HS. Unless I'm misunderstanding the mechanics of one or either of these abilities from a tanking perspective.
While that's true, there are two other things in play. First off is when you change a white swing into a heroic strike you get 1) 15% extra crit from Incite and 2) prevents that swing from being a glancing blow.
The second part is that Devastate and Heroic Strike are used in combination, it's not an either-or choice. You already said Heroic Strike takes your white swing, which is exactly why it's such a good ability. You don't need the rage gained from white swings, you are getting railed on and getting rage from avoidance. You are limited to the GCD with Devastate, and limited to next-melee for Heroic Strikes. That means that you get to do both at the same time.
So while Devastate is "a much more damaging ability" than Heroic Strike, that fact doesn't matter.
