Interesting... They should be treated differently due to their physical differences,
Absolutely.
Person A: Weighs 100 lbs and can lift 80. Woman
Person B: Weighs 170 lbs and can lift 250. Man.
Treating them the same would mean that I hire both of them to be firefighters (or flip a coin if I only need one). No, their physical differences demand that I treat them differently. I
won't
hire the woman. I will hire the man. I am treating them differently because of their physical differences.
but you wouldn't want a woman who can lift less than a man to attempt saving your theoretical daughter.
Which is why treat them differently. I don't know the numbers but I assume ~85% of firefighters are men. Why? Because men are treated differently due to them having a larger physique on average.
I don't think men and women should have different standards; the set standard should be equal between the two. Is that what you agree upon?
As I said before, I don't think standards have anything whatsoever to do with sex. It may happen that men are better able to reach certain standards, but that's accidental.

Edit:So in other words they are equal in opportunity (like I said), but unequal when it comes to firefighting (like I said). So the fire department should not try to hire equal numbers of men and women for 'equality's' sake, but should acknowledge the fact that men and women are unequal physically and should hire based on that (like I said)?
Wait, so are you saying that based on opportunity alone, women and men should be equal but when it comes to actual physical strength, they should have different minimums?
They are equal when it comes to opportunity, thus they should be given fair and equal opportunity. They are not equal in physical ability, so they should not be hired equally (hence the fire department being made up of mostly men).

Kind of off topic, but this made me think of something.
Gay pride parades.
Oh joy
, says they,
the rights of the minority to hold a parade for themselves!
But if I were to put on a Straight pride parade.
How discriminatory! Let's come up with another -ism to call him!

Indeed. "Reverse" discrimination as it is called isn't reverse in any way, its exactly the same thing as discrimination. That's partially why I don't feel guilty about being racist, because if other people just blended in, then they wouldn't stand out, as simple as that sounds it seems like a hard concept for minorities to understand.

Now, folks, I've said it before, I am a member of a persecuted minority: white males. Last week, my people were marginalized even more when President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court! There wasn't a single white male on his short list! That sends a terrible message to all the little white boys out there who dream of one day having their judicial reputation destroyed by the media.
Sotomayor brings up the most despicable discrimination against white males out there, that we have no life stories! Sure, Obama's life story shaped him. Same goes for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. And now everyone's saying it about Sonia Sotomayor. Notice how no one ever talks about the unique journey of a white male like Mitt Romney! You don't think his judgment and empathy were forged by long, hard days working at his family's mayonnaise farm?
Plus, if we conservatives try to stand up to this reverse racism, we're going to lose crucial Latino votes, just as GOP leaders were beginning their outreach to Hispanics! Many have even asked their gardener what his name is!
