Key aspect of this topic: I'm level 75. Yes, spec matters SOMEWHAT but not as much as skill, gear, and rotation. Well, demonology doesn't count, don't spec demo at 80.
Also, lock forums --->

There is no "right" way to spec.
Well...there really is.
The right way to spec is the spec that will do the most dps.
Yeah... but if you get bored or hate that spec it's the wrong way.
I loved being demon, and just AoE farming multipacks, but I've gone Destro lately... and I enjoy 2 shotting things even with my crappy gear... So it's all about how you play the game, not what anyone else thinks or tells you how to spec.
(Also, my warlock is Mareluxia in my profile if you want to see her sad gear and spec heh)

You have neither Demonic Aegis or Shadow and Flame. Spec properly before you go comparing different specs to one another. Cookie Cutter Destro is
this
. Enjoy.
Currently I believe the ranking is Desto>Afflic>Demo.
From what I've read of 3.3 it'll switch to Afflic>Destro>Demo and the gaps between the three will be lessened.
I'm not removing Shadowburn & Shadowfury for only 20% increased damage. : \
I agree with you on Demonic Aegis but i'm not draining my actionbar of 4 spells just so I can do a tad more damage. If any. There is no "right" way to spec, I started this thread to try to figure out how people did their rotations and what worked best for them in the spec that they were in.
no there isn't. unless you plan on raiding or being taken seriously anywhere, especially on the lock forums, most of the people on the lock forums do this little thing called theorycrafting and as a result can tell you the exact best build on each spec, and yes there is one for each spec.
tl;dr there are cookie cutter specs for a reason

The right way to spec is the spec that you will have the most fun. Fun should come first before DPS, because more than likely, unless you're dps in a prot spec or something, Your DPS will be higher if you're having fun doing it, compared to a spec/rotation that you hate.
And with Locks, i'm pretty sure all specs are withing 3% of eachother on the DPS meters.

This is for people who are hit capped, for people who arn't take 3 points from somewhere else. and put them in suppression for additional hit.

i promise that EJ does
not
suggest using CoA and corruption in your destro rotations.
the priority, as i put in the FAQ, is:
Life Tap ► Curse of Doom ► Immolate ► Conflagrate ► Chaos Bolt ► Incinerate
edit: i just actually read through the whole thread and there's so much fail in this one place that it would probably best to quarantine this thread as casual readers could easily come way with dreadful advice.

And with Locks, i'm pretty sure all specs are withing 3% of eachother on the DPS meters.
Just because all three trees CAN be within 3% DPS of eachother does not mean that you can toss your points anywhere in these trees and maintain this 3%. Cookie-cutter builds are there for a reason.
And to the person complaining about losing 4 spells on your action bar, there is a dualspec for a reason. If you want shadowfury and shadowburn, put them in your offspec, they should NEVER be used in PvE, they will ALWAYS be a DPS loss over using your proper rotation.
While having fun is the most important thing by a longshot, if you cant get into raids because of your spec/DPS output, you won't be having any fun in the first place.
So my tip is invest in dualspec, take one of the cookie cutter PvE builds for one of the specs, then do whatever the hell you wanna do for fun with the other spec, because you're right, thats what really matters in the end =)
tl;dr Dual Spec Is Your Friend
