Why is League of Legends getting exponentially more exposure than Heroes of Newerth?

Two popular sites I go to, from tonight alone, have supported League of Legends. Yet, they neglect even mentioning Heroes of Newerth. The sites are Wowhead, and Kotaku. I found League of Legends to be a rather uninteresting game, and Heroes of Newerth to be a hell of a lot better than both it AND DotA (the game it was based off of (Defense of the Ancients, a Warcraft 3 custom map)).
Are the sites getting paid to advertise LoL and ignore HoN? Or are they merely going with the one that is free, and already released, rather than the one that will be $30 when it is released, several months from now?
I'm leaning towards the latter, but conspiracy theory threads are always fun. Also, if any of you say "should be in recycle bin" or anything like it, I will inform you that the Recycle Bin has such a broad category of target subjects that everything in Randomness could be put into it and it'd be on topic. :|

I think the MAIN reason people migrated to LoL over HoN is because HoN suffers the SAME exact problems as Dota. The 2 main things seem to contradict but in fact are what ruin most all games of this nature. There are over powered items to name 2 any item that lets a champion stealth or blink and any item that has a chance to hit on stun. If you look LoL had neither of those. Secondly both Hon and Dota have one fatal flaw, they dont scale. Meaning mid to late game its obvious who will build what and it will clearly be over powered.
I loved the graphics and gritty feel of HoN. I miss and love some of the heros but the truth is its a flawed game. Anyone thats ever played it knows that. Anytime a champion HAS to spec and build a specific way or you have to redo a WHOLE build just because there is one champion in a game is a problem. Or the fact that some champions with no gear, simply are no match in any way for others. (( setting aside the argument some are support, dps, tank etc )) And I understand part of the problem comes into playw hen people play a champion out of its role but LoL is simply a more balanced game. It has its flaws, like the ranked system actually has more whiners, not less.
I think LoL is more friendly being free. It feels like Hon mastered the Hype of Dota but LoL mastered the playability. To me... anyways. By the heart, the nature of what the Genre of game is.
Demigod felt more like from a strategic standpoint. you had a champion with abilities but they almost all were there to support the pushes. There were not really assasin types and tanks. Etc. They had various abilities and stats but it felt more strategic. It has its original ideas. Like multiple bases and routes to push on. I get sick of the same maps in these games. It sort of felt like Warhammer to me.(##RESPBREAK##)136##DELIM##hatman555##DELIM##

hey I recently started with league of legends and now liking the game. But it takes lot of time of understand the champions initially but once you start playing, you are fine. I have not played HoN or DotA so I cannot comment on that. And thanks to all here to give a very nice explanation.

Why is no one talking about Company of Heroes 2?

HOLY NECRO BATMAN!!!!
Anyways, the reason LoL got more exposure than HoN is because the former was free, thus having a wider entry door. Shows you how few were playing HoN that eventually they had to drop their subscription model and go F2P as well.

More people probably enjoy LoL for various reasons, be it balancing, gameplay, price etc. Plus, Riot is the company that is funneling the most money and energy into promoting e-sports by far, surpassing even Blizzard when it comes to organizing tournaments and building a professional scene.

Well, if you think about it LoL already has a large amount of fans. The game itself might be free but you can actually buy everything: champions, skins, runes and stuff.Riot gets a lot of money from those sells. Althought that LoL is based on DotA it has a lot of differences.
I don't play LoL or HoN. I rather playing old school Dota. I've been playing Dota since I was 9 and I'm 17 now.

runes
You have to buy runes with points earned in the game, but pretty much everything else can be bought with money, but none of it offers an advantage. It's F2P but not pay to win, which probably attracts a lot of people too.

HoN is just a DotA reskin from what it seems. Dota2 is the thing. LoL is just a bland game, with casual friendly stuff, and "fun sized" content. If all heroes are OP in their own way, the game is balanced. Plus dota2 has a huge spell variety, giving it a big replay value.

because HON went free to play much later than LEAGUE OF LEGENDS.
hon had the chance to take gaming to a new level, but now league of legends is the main gaming game for gamers to game on. easy learning curve, no denying, no gold loss on death. it's the game for all noobs to play on. but on the competitive level, they are all very good players.
im dissapionted.. because even LoL trumps DOTA 2 and HON, and STARCRAFT 2 at the moment in terms of sheer number.
