Pretty sure it's just a rare skin from any skinnable mob in northrend......meaning, you just need to skin and skin and skin and skin to get them.
depending on farmbots and your server.....just pick a spot with lots of skinnables and go at it.

They are currently going for 110g on my servers AH -_- so farming them would be best
The horrible drop rate makes "grinding" this item a waste of time, in my opinion. Just do dailies or farm anything else to get (much) more gold.

i think the violet hold would be an excellent place to skin. you would need a good team. just let as many dragonkin spawn as you can handle, nuke, skin, reset, repeat.

mmo-champion is predicting the 3.3 patch this coming tuesday/wednesday. In 3.3, you will be able to trade in heavy leather for arctic fur. Perhaps before the economy shifts, you could take advantage of stockpiling heavy leather, converting it and selling on the first day of the new patch before non-skinners realize the change?

i been farming Arctic furs for some time now.. on diff spots.
best way (atleased for me as boomkin who can AOE) is the
seals at the cost of Howling Fjord. The coast close to (cant remember the name) <something> outpost.. bottom right coast.
there is loads of seals there.. am just aoe them down.. just killing all normaly gives me 2-8 at time.. ofc some days it only gives me 1.. but normaly it gives me loads.. and sence they are low lvl its easy kills and that way makes it easy and fast farming..
On my server we atm have trubbel to sell arctic fur for 30g.. SUX ASS.. even dropped my skinning now sence its crap..
server: deathwing. (alliance).

and sometimes you will just have a terrible drop rate for them, in a 2 day span I skinned about 1200 skins and didn't get a single Arctic Fur, and I was farming stuff that was in the 78-80 lvl range, so just go kill skin and pray.

Arctic fur is the New Heavy Borean Leather. Even notice how none of the new patterns even need Heavy Borean Leather? So the price will probably drop.
I'm hoping it will remain steady though. AF sells for 80gold on my server and with the up coming patch, I took a gamble and sold the 20+ I had. If I see they sell for much more right after the patch (I hope they do), I have 20 stacks of Heavy Borean to trade up!

I agree Kopking with the probability of a price drop in Furs, which is why I sold what I had. I also believe that Heavies will go up slightly, which is why I didn't sell what I had.
Let's hope primordial Saronite isn't 2k each! My plan is to get those patterns and buy and sell the produced items. Nothing better than seeing mail in the AH for 10-15k. Now if I can only play the real market like this... /sigh.

46.54 are the coords for a cave in Storm Peaks. In that cave the mobs are in large numbers and with low HP. I get around 1 Arctic Fur/hour and around 200-250 Leather.

Icehowl and Anub both skin into like 18 leather and 1 arctic fur each week. So that is 6 fur's a week you can get for free.
6 only because the TOGC does not allow skinning of Icehowl.
Other than that, like everyone else has said..... either grind or buy.

Once we are actuall able to get onto our servers after this patch is done, you'll be able to convert your heavy borean leathers into arctic furs.
Although I don't know for sure, I believe you have to trade them into the same guy who sells you the patterns. If not then, I'd guess someone inside the leather shop.
This will make "skinning" for furs moot.
