if u do get more damage done than others ur doing good.
Damage Done > DPS
But u might get a bit more damage gemming only 2 blues and rest reckless gems if u want alot of haste. ?
I like ur idea, so basicly gem 2 greens in bleu sockets with 10 haste/spirit and rest of ur gems SP/Haste no need for more than 2 haste/spirit as Spirit isnt that good.
SP > Spirit as u already know.
A small look at ur gems and i see u can exchange 5 gems (beeing both Sp+Spirit and Haste/Spirit) to 12 SP + Haste.
This gives u more haste and more SP eventually more damage and dps.
Go Go non cookie cutter gemming !

Am I misunderstanding something or is the only real way to have higher damage done and lower DPS to be damaging for a longer period of time? (Which most typically happens if someone dies early.)
Person A does 140k damage over 20 seconds and therefore has 7k DPS.
Person B does 180k damage over 30 seconds and therefore has 6k DPS.
How else can you end up with a discrepancy between ranking for total damage and DPS?

Pure spellpower is still the best DPS increase, which in turn means it's the most optimal stat to gem for. Don't get me wrong, haste is a great stat, and you should gem an orange sp/haste for your yellow gem sockets, but you don't want to gem PURELY for haste e.g. orange sp/haste in your red sockets, or something idiotic like a green haste/spirit in your blues.
I'm sitting at nearly 3200 spellpower, and barely 700 haste unbuffed. Notably less haste than other mages in my guild, but I'm still doing more damage done AND dps. What it comes down to in the end is that I manage my mana a lot better than the other mages. The correlation between DPS and Damage Done over a long fight is more dependant on you the player than what your stat distribution is (although, with a haste heavy build, you can argue that since you're getting more casts off faster during a fight, you're inevitably using more mana).

OMG - You've just made me realize. There are other gems that can fit in Blue and Yellow slots (Purple and Orange). I just went to the AH and searched for Blue and Yellow when I needed them. I got the Haste for Yellow and Stamina for Blue.
Now, with my 3 Yellow and 4 Blue slots, I can get the Spellpower + Haste, and Spellpower + Stamina Orange and Purple ones, and increase my Spellpower by 84!
What a dummy I've been, and spent all that needless money!

It depends on what kind of meter you're using as well. I use recount, and while overall damage is calculated additively (it just adds up your spell hits), DPS is a "live" calculation, meaning that it is calculated moment-to-moment.
Ah, I figured it was just sort of doing a running average since the start of the fight.
